I knew I should have said Devil's Tower when i first thought of it. The story behind it always involves a bear chasing a young person or people and the gods rising up the land under them. The "claw marks" of the bear/s are seen running down the sides.

Interestingly, the legend behind it is Sioux - same tribe as Tooman, I think.

Such a strange, random thing in the map.

looks like a night vision camera possibly. Maybe something put in place to monitor a location, something will happen there in the future maybe?

Well- the camera is also apparently knocked over... maybe this footage will turn into something later.

May be the camera man has been shot to death, but the camera still operates.

They were up this morning, but now they are not. I'm thinking it had to be as a result of what happened last night.

The image in the upper left of the SPARKEYE screen was not redio trafffic, at least not all of it. Something happened up there.

I think the server was a whoopsie, myself Gen Smile I watched a couple aircraft circle the little thingie I found today adn then we get teh message that the guy's been foudn (I think that indicates he's found, anyway)

However! I have pleased myself in figuring out what some of the blips are. The largest fuzzy blip I"ve found is actually a reconaissance plane that flies at high altitude and can see foreeeever ;D

Please, enlighten me. How did you figure that out?

Well while I was at work today and working hard, I jotted down the number that appeared when the blip was clicked on. It was bugging me - ACW was this huge fuzzy thing, bigger than the AFBs, and I HAAAD to know.

So, while working HAAARD, I put that identification number into google, and it pulled up a military list of currently active recon vehicles (I wish I had the make, but I forgot it and the number is at work) and it was on there with a few others. I went to wiki and read up on them, and they have this big, mounted satellite disc on their top (they're made by boeing, modified versions of passenger flight, and they're manned).

When I get to work tomorrow, I'll post up the site. I figured I was the only one that cared LOL The abbreviations of the blips and bleeps and doodads have been driving me, as a military-stupid individual, NUTS. I can make guesses at what things are, but some are going so fast they can't be artillery like the page someone linked said, so they have to be some sort of flying doohickey. I figured the circles with the triangles and the abbreviation ACR were.. aircraft, but ACW ... it was BUGGIN ME.

FOUND IT: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/e-3-pics.htm

So it's not really recon.. it's AWACS. But it does have the big thingy on it. The number of the one I saw flyign towards North Dakota was 80-00139 E-3C 552 ACW

Nice catch, I know of E-3 Sentry's and their job but I never heard them termed as ACW, so ggod find!

And it makes sense to. SInce most of the air stations probably lost radar coverage after the EMP, they'd us the E-3's to fill in the gaps.
They're basiclly a Headquarters in the sky. They conduct air operations over a specific region. They'd also be one of the first, if not thee first, aircraft that you'd call if you are calling in an airstrike.

That picture last night really makes me wonder. SOMETHING was going on in the NW corner of that map.

I think while I'm working hard tomorrow, I might try to dig up a few of teh other airplane codes, just out of my own curiosity. I'm so friggin clueless on military vehicles, planes or otherwise, and it's good to learn. And to me, it makes sense that a craft as equipped for looking around as the E-3 _would_ make that big of a fuzzy on a radar that might be tracking signals, radio, or some other form of transmission.

It makes me wonder about all the teenie blips - coudl they be the triangles on the map? I'm not certain what their purpose is.

I wondered what a FOB was today, too, until I guessed it's probably a forward operating base since the FOBs appear to be stationary, and a forward operating battalion seems... eh. more mobile Smile

edit: YAY the blips are back! It's like watching a fishtank. nothing's really happening.. but.. but..

editx2: Here's a Question for ya Patton:

I think the C-130H3 I'm seeing now is a Hercules aircraft, but do you have any idea what the 654-20 ACR coudl be? I was wondering if it could be an Dolphin helicopter, as that abbreviation is HH-65. There's also a marking for a 644-14 3 ACR... AH-64 is an apache helicopter, but I'm not certain my reasoning makes sense. I still haven't figured out what symbol indicates a helicopter versus a plane Smile
