A sequel by now is almost 100% sure but if we really want to know more about the nature/origin of the monster itself, the new movie would have to be based in a military POV I guess. Otherwise, from the POV of some other luckier group of people, would only show the monster's escape into the sea or his destruction.
One of those pics in the 1-18-08.com website show something being heavily attacked by naval and air forces. That's the monster for sure. I wonder if he finally escaped into the sea ...
That pic can't show something that happened before but only and only after the monster's attack in the city ...
I agree in the movie I remember seeing one of the officers with a cam on his helmet. That would be a cool and differently POV. It could also show that scene of that night attck in the water.

Well, I'm not really like the double titles like "Indi Jones and The vorbidden Trout" or stuff.
So I'd be happy just with a name like
"Slusho"
(incl. the whole Slusho/Tagruato story)
I cannot believe, the Slusho universe was abandoned by authors after the movie start.

You really can't believe that? I am just now posting back here, because of my review of the film. I got to see it early and tore the film a new asshole. Now that I read the threads and see the responses, I feel vindicated. On Jan 15 2008, I was the worst person ever. I lied, trolled, etc...Anything else could have said bad about me. Now everyone is pissed about this and that.
J.J. Abrhams is sucking you (me) people dry. I never thought I would learn to love the "Blair Witch Project". I liked it, but now it seems brillant. This film is an I-Phone, 30 million dollar jerk-off.
The worst thing? You can't blame the film makers for a second. I just hope it falls off the map as fast as this piece of crap "monster" movie did.

Come on, were you really expecting it to contain Tagruato and Slusho more than what it did? After all it's all point of view from that group which basicly has nothing to do with them (well apart from Rob's work, and I would've found it rather stupid to include it actually. I can't imagine anyone going "OH ROB! Vice president in Slusho! The famous trademark of Tagruato! You're the man!".
Though I'm sure they had a meaning with the ARE/ARG and if there's more movies following (as it seem) then it will be included all the way cause it is part of it's backstory no matter what. Don't despair nofx1978

I totally agree with the guys that say that Cloverfield would be excellent if remained as a lone movie without sequels or prequels or whatever, for us to imagine what could've happened before or after what we saw in the cinemas. But, well, you know perfectly that it won't happen. If not soon, they're going to release a new film in a future anyways.
There's gonna be another movie based on it. We just can't escape it.

Matthew Reeves is obviously aware that CHUD wrote a massive article pleading with Paramount to close any option for a sequel.
As of the moment, everyone is reaching far ahead of themselves. JJ and Matthew are only developing the film at the moment. Do you know how many films sink the bottom in the development process? Goonies 2, ring a bell for anyone?

The movie cost $25m to produce and hade made more than $120m ww so far....you do the math.
Some kind of sequel is going to be made...and all the bitching and whining by you anti-sequel teabaggers isn't going to change that.

Is there one fuckin person out there who recognizes the fact that, WHEN a sequel is made, it may not solve much of what what left open in the first movie? In fact, for every thing it solves, it may raise one or more questions of its own. I'd like to know who the fuck said that a sequel would have to answer the questions left open from the first movie and leave no new questions of its own.
And, adding to what Some Thing said above me, the best we can ever hope to do is influence what kind of movie is made (if that, even)...there's not a virgin's chance in Amsterdam of us stopping the production of a sequel, no matter how much we bitch about it.

Anybody seen that thing where JJ talks about his secret box? He bought a box when he was a kid and he, to this day, has not opened it and seen what's inside.
Chrizzy's right.
Don't expect the next movie to sit you down and explain every aspect of the Cloverfield universe.

Maybe Cloverfield II will be a montage of footage from various home-video-ish sources - cameraphones, other witness cameras, military cameras (think the camera on top of that soldier's head) and even that helicopter scene we saw in the Chuai videos which can be a means to communicate the backstory. Technically it would be the same technique.(eh?)

I think now that the major "surprise" of the monster is over, the sequel will most likely have a much clearer view of MGP, and at least what made it desire to attack NYC. I'm cool if it never explains MGP's origin, because how in the hell would people figure THAT out?

I think the sequel will be a True Life: Im an MGP version.
We'll get to see MGP's family and their reaction to the destruction and rage MGP seems so readily to exhibit.
Exclusive interviews with MGP himself!
COMING SOON 1-18-09!
