I think they looked like a cross between the generic soldier bugs from starship troopers and the frontal portion of the queen alien's head from aliens. The snout being much more elongated and narrow than the queen in this case. We can surmise that their teeth are evenly spaced from the bite pattern on Marlene's shoulder, each tooth measuring roughly 3-4cm (just guessing from memory).

I also vaguely recall some tentacle appendages around the middle of their thorax (3 pairs if i remember correctly) wiggling around in a brief scene after rob axes the one in the apartment building. These might have been used to suction on to ST's body without piercing his skin. If this were the case, it would be another clue pointing to them having a mutualistic relationship with ST rather than directly feeding off of it.

Just watched it yesterday for the first time and was paying attention closely to those ones. They do seem to have at least more than two eyes ...

Umm...

Anyone ever consider the PARASITES may have some sort of venom they use to eat thru MGP's obviously bullet/rocket/missile-proof skin so that they can attach and suck blood? This venom, when it comes in contact with HUMAN blood, causes the victim to seemingly explode?

Clearly the medics have seen this happen to people, and set up a HAZMAT area to take people who are going to "pop".

As far as the military keeping a dead PARASITE, why wouldn't they?? Of course they would take one, especially since they entire island is scheduled to be NUKED.

First order of business: KILL IT.
Second order of business: FIND OUT WTF IT WAS/WHERE IT CAME FROM.
Third order of business: PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.

It's definitely a symbiotic relationship.

What makes you so sure?

agreed. I don't see why they wouldn't take one with them if they could. They probably caught a live one elsewhere too. my question about the seats is how/why one of them crawled all the way up to the 39th floor of a leaning apartment building. there's no good food up there because everyone evacuated the building. It just doesn't make sense for them to climb that high just to decrease their chances at a good meal.

Cloverfield monster rubbed

I assumed that MGP rubbed up against that building and trapped a few buggers inside. He obviously bumped into the building at some point. Just a few strays making their way out.

As JJ put it, the monster was scratching his back on the building. The PARASITES would have gone into the building as well as fallen onto the street.

A symbiotic relationship goes both ways, this means they both benefit from whatever it is they do.

These little crab/spiders simply seem to feed off of MGP, and when knocked loose they look for something else to eat on, and in a hurry. You know, like PARASITES.

Production notes:

As part of a "post-birth ritual," as Abrams describes it, the monster is seen early on scratching his back on a building (destroying it in the process), to remove a layer of parasites that are set loose to wreak their own havoc on the city.

You mean Agreed with a capital A?

But yeah..I concur..it was a bit unexplained as to why it would HAPPEN to follow them up a leaning building. Maybe it followed them up there? Who knows?

Also..There's should have been capitalized as well.

YES! Someone mentions it! They look A LOT like em. That's the only thing I could come up with to compare them to. So if you guys ever wanna feel like you're fighting some parasites, play some Half Life 2. Hell, even MGP look like he coulda come from the Half-Life world.
