I think this is a prototype.
In 2002, a fansite for Bionicle(A Lego Brand) Posted pictures for new sets.
Note the similaritys:
Bad paintwork.
Different design.
Grey parts.
So i think its a prototype...
If it isn't
That also explains why the 'Glands' are not red.

No, the glands aren't red because they weren't red in the movie.
In the scene with hud he was backlit by open sky.
Go find some open sky, look at your hand, is it red? (unlikely)
now hold it up to the sky and spread your fingers, see the light passing through the thinner parts of your hand.. those parts LOOK red because the light is passing through them.
There are plenty of scenes where we see the side of its head w/out red glands.. the commercial w/ the monster for example.

What the?
Now THAT'S disappointing. For me, it's not how frail etc it looks, it's the fact that looks very little like what we see in the movie.
1) MGP holds it's 'fists' in a clenched position when planted ion the ground.
2) MGP had red air-sacs in the film.
3) How can they go and start selling this weeks before anyone knows what it looks like, and how can they advertise it without all of the features... featured in the photographs.
I sincerely hope hasbro hasn't yet produced this toy en masse and are taking the time to collect feedback from consumers and 'refine' MGP's design...

like animaniac posted before the air sacs aren't red.
And yes it does look frail.

If you look closer at the pics you can clearly see that the fingers are jointed and movable as well, thus being able to be posed on his fists like he should be.
The people that took the pics probably haven't seen the movie so they positioned it how it looked to them. It definitely has alot more movable parts than you call see at first glance.

I completely agree, most people said his skin looked a bit transparent. With the light shinning behind him in that scene the red showed through the skin. I think this is because of the massive amount of blood circulation through his breathing sacs in order to oxygenate his blood, like the gills on a fish are red and covered with a protective plate.
Now the toy:
I think it looks too thin but that may be because it is sitting alone with no background. The back legs look way to thin and long. Are there too many upper teeth?
Did anyone else mention the flounder like fins under the arm pits?
I love how the smaller arms tuck away.

yes its arms look frail, but thats because of the size of the rest of it, when its scaled up to the 1000' long range, i do believe everything else becomes frail. and to me it looks very much like what i saw in the movie...

One thing that bothers me is the matter of trying to imagine this thing swimming. . .
