[EXTRANEOUS] SL Book Club If you are interested in reading a book with others and discussing on vent, this is the spot. I would like to start soon, but give people enough time to get copies of the book if they are interested. Either email me or respond here so I can get an idea of who wants in and then I will choose the first book, although I have one in mind kinda already. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, otherwise it will be there talking about the book myself.

I like this idea, but I don't know if it'll not be funnier to sit there and watch you discuss the book to yourself.

I reserve the right to not join in if it's a book I don't like.
But yeah, sounds cool! I'm up for it.

Is the obvious choice Alice's Adventure in Wonderland?

I have taken advice from a wise man on the first choice. AAIW is something we should all be reading on our own. We should set up a time to discuss it, however. Our first choice should be easy, not threatening in size or language, and have an important message. It is for these reasons that I have chosen Shel Silverstein's 'The Giving Tree'. It will take you all of 15 minutes to read once. Not even that long actually. Please read it more than once.

I would like to discuss The Giving Tree this week. I was thinking that if anyone was so inspired, they could bring works influenced by the book with them. I was thinking wed or thursday night.

I'm quiet intrested in joining as well, i just watched that video for giving tree, Are we going to be only reading short things or long things as well.. Cause I'd love to suggest Angels & Demons by Dan Brown, I really loved that book,..
Quote:
I imagine some controversy is unavoidable, yes, although it's important to remember that Angels & Demons is primarily a thriller--a chase and a love story. It's certainly not an anti-Catholic book. It's not even a religious book. Much of the novel's action takes place deep inside the arcane world of the Vatican, and yes, some of the factual information revealed there is startling, but I think most people understand that an organization as old and powerful as the Vatican could not possibly have risen to power without acquiring a few skeletons in their closets.
Thats A response from the other about the book. Overall I thought it discussed a bunch of cool concepts such as Anti-Matter. A Very Real, and a Very.. Intresting Concept...
Quote:
Absolutely. Antimatter is the ultimate energy source. It releases energy with 100% efficiency (nuclear fission is 1.5% efficient.) Antimatter is 100,000 times more powerful than rocket fuel. A single gram contains the energy of a 20 kiloton atomic bomb--the size of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. In addition to being highly explosive, antimatter is extremely unstable and ignites when it comes in contact with anything...even air. It can only be stored by suspending it in an electromagnetic field inside a vacuum canister. If the field fails and the antimatter falls, the result is a "perfect" matter/antimatter conversion, which physicists aptly call "annihilation." CERN is now regularly producing small quantities of antimatter in their research for future energy sources. Antimatter holds tremendous promise; it creates no pollution or radiation, and a single droplet could power New York City for a full day. With fossils fuels dwindling, the promise of harnessing antimatter could be an enormous leap for the future of this planet. Of course, mastering antimatter technology brings with it a chilling dilemma. Will this powerful new technology save the world, or will it be used to create the most deadly weapon ever made?
Then Again thats just my two cents,

I would like to move on to other, deeper, more intellectual works, but it was suggested that we start out slow and move forward from there. All suggestions for books are totally welcome, and being written down for future reference.
