[WILD UNADULTERATED SPEC] An Overview of the whole thing.

Quote:
When the Covenant ships fly past Mars in Halo 2 they will almost certainly find Demios intact.

The significance of the precious gems in the Widows tale is still bugging me. I still think there's similarities between the widows tale and an invading army. She describes passing giant blocks (the outer planets) and a red ruby (mars) and finally a blue sapphire (earth) and marking them (invading them - is Mars colonised in the Halo universe?) as she goes. Its the description of the gems that's been bugging me, they seem too specific to be consequential.

Ok. Heres the wild spec for you.

What if the thing that has crashed into earth in our time is Covenant in origin, something that has slipped through time to us, something the Covenant are desperate to retrieve. Could it be the reason for the Covenants desperate attempts to find the location of Earth, searching for it for centuries, even going so far as to start a war with us? (I don't know the reasons behind the war... does anyone?) This something could give us an immense tactical advantage if we find out what it is and how to use it. The Covenant, being the war-like race that they are wish to be the only dominant power in the galaxy and are desperate to prevent us aquiring this knowlege. Maybe thats the game, figure out what this power is and how we can use it to help our race hundreds of years into the future when the Covenant is invading Earth?

The more of this I type the more I think it sounds like utter rubbish... but there's a lot of it so I figure I may as well post it. Hell, wouldn't you all be surprised if I turned out to be right? (Yeah, like thats gonna happen) Confused

Where is that quote from Shadrach?

Aside from that, that is an interesting threory. So far we've assumed that the AI, Melissa, is Human/Huamn origin

I too have a serious problem with our inability to place the gems in a meaningful manner.

Your astronomical spec is most interesting.

The war is basically religious in nature. The Covenent believe the galaxy needs to be purged of the human taint. In the novel The Fall of Reach, the Covenent sent a message to the humans at the start of the war. I don't remember the exact wording, but it pretty much says they will wipe the humans out.

Eh. The Covenant's religious crap is just that crap. Only meant to unite the many covenant races together. Covenant started out as a bond between the Elites and the Prophets. Everyone else, except maybe Brutes, were brought in by force. Brutes history is kinda sketchy at best.

The real reasons they go to war are to enslave that race, steal their technology, or wipe out an opposing force. They were also looking for that mysterious crystal that they found on Reach. Forerunner tech. I suspect there is another one on Earth....

I know we've got the Widows journey down as just another reading of the computer text, and that makes sense. Some of the terminology used in the story still needs explaining though I think. First off, we have the 'hollow crown' which is all thats left behind when the Queens castle is destroyed. I don't know about you but that leaps out at me as a Halo, whether its the one from the first game remains to be seen. Then there's the staff made of bone... why bone specifically? Then we have the Ruby and the Sapphire, also the word clockcase. All these terms must have a parallel in the computer text, they are just too specifically described to be coincidence i think.

Definitely something about the crown, ruby and sapphire....

I don't know if there is gunna be anything in the computer text about the bone thing or whatever. Though I suspect there might be something in there about the Spider asking the Firefly for the time....

Thinking on this a bit more...is halo (or halos?) the only things left from the Forerunners? Could the ressurection of the queen be pointing towards the Forerunners returning in some form?

I understood the religion was just a way for prophets to take power, I think the real 2 reasons for the war are:
1) Relics, such as the one found on reach, and the other in that laser device (Can't remember planet name).
2) Humans are a threat, they will eventually become more technically advanced than the Covenant.

Sigma O(something) IV . And the 3rd reason as stated before is to enslave...

I think that it would be very helpful to re-thing this whole story from a covenant perspective, as well. It makes a lot more of this make sense, except for the inexplicable use of english by the program. 'course, if it was evesdropping on an ONI cruiser system it would know english. This might make some of the apparent combattive relationships between the char's make sense.
