When Is It Too Early To Critique A Game?

Obviously I'm talking about a game currently in progress...

Also, I'm assuming that the first days... (opening events) of the game shouldn't be critiqued because it's still establishing its parameters. But beyond that, why should I (or shouldn't I) critique a game as it's being played?

Depends on what you mean by critique. This is certainly the place to discuss the game as a game in the meta sense. If you have some constructive criticism or praise for what you've seen so far, you're entitled to share your opinion in a non-inflammatory way. But if dissection of the game's mechanics begins to overshadow discussion of the actual game, then you might meet with some backlash. It also helps if your critique is limited to the game's assets, not the game's PMs.
