yea, it's the one we talked about a few nights ago that has "Land of Confusion" on it which got us thinking about Land of Nod which got us thinking about Cain, Abel and Seth. then I think petunia emailed Ethan about and that theory got crushed. so we're back to ground zero. But

msg1 came from the Lord of the Rings, we now have reference to the Two Towers in the last clue from Philly. So, I'm beginning to think that the whole thing is related to Lord of the Rings. Land of Confusion is probably a reference to The Land of Mordor where the Shadows Lie. Perhaps someone can find the answers here.

The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy novel written by the English academic and philologist J. R. R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's earlier work, The Hobbit, but developed into a much larger story.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit
Quote:
The Hobbit, or There and Back Again is a story for children written by J. R. R. Tolkien in the tradition of the fairy tale. Tolkien wrote the story in the late 1920s initially to amuse his three sons, and draws on much of the author's professional knowledge of languages, especially Old English and its associated literature. It was first published on September 21, 1937 to wide critical acclaim. It was nominated for the Carnegie Medal that year and awarded a prize from the New York Herald Tribune for best juvenile fiction the year after. More recently The Hobbit has been recognised as "Most Important 20th-Century Novel (for Older Readers)" in the Children's Books of the Century poll in Books for Keeps.[4]

The Hobbit is set in a time "between the dawn of Faerie and the Dominion of Men",[5] and follows the quest of home-loving Bilbo Baggins (the "Hobbit" of the title) to win his share of the treasure guarded by the dragon, Smaug. His journey takes him from light-hearted, rural surroundings and into darker, deeper territory[6], meeting various denizens of the Wilderland along the way. By accepting the disreputable, romantic, fey and adventurous side of nature (the "Tookish" side) and utilizing both his wits and common sense during the quest, Bilbo develops a new level of maturity, competence and wisdom.[7]

While The Hobbit stands in its own right as a complete, self-contained story it is also the precursor to Tolkien's second, longer novel The Lord of the Rings. The publisher requested a sequel due to the success of The Hobbit', though The Lord of the Rings was not to be finished and published until 17 years after the original. The Hobbit has been republished and adapted many times since its first edition.

At Sylvia's request I emailed Jade about the solution to Philly's brainteaser. So we'll see if he's up for another jaunt to Trout Creek or if we need to look in another direction.

What CD is this?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. I shudder to think this might all come back to 80s soft rock.

Er, I still don't know what cd this is.

Track list includes all the terms.

jade's take on sylvia's solution wrote:
Hey, Mort.

Wow, that's some hardcore deduction! I don't know, though; do you think this cat Philly was thinking Slider was going to be able to solve his little puzzle so fast that he (Slider) would be able to do "whatever" while he was still at Trout Creek? Or maybe you're thinking that Slider would leave, figure it out, then have to go back (thereby pissing him [and me] off to all new heights)?

As you know, I am more than happy to leave the gigaflop processing to you (especially with all the other fun that's been going on), so I haven't really given this much thought. My "Jedi feeling" though (which is based on nothing more than a short weekend spent on Degoba, and it rained the whole time!), is that this putz Philly would probably sent his pal Slider way the hell off to someplace else, given half a chance.

But who knows? (Oh yeah, I guess the Shadow knows... Wink )

More soon,
Jade

Smoke

Of course... the one time I'm on Skype and forget to have the wiki opened up to the Smoke page, and she hits me. Rolling Eyes
Quote:

[9:34:07 PM] Smoke says: ?
[9:34:40 PM] perique says: melon
[9:37:03 PM] Smoke says: a time
[9:38:21 PM] perique says: when will we find out whether Whitechapel is Enclave?
[9:40:23 PM] Smoke says: at 23:59
[9:40:38 PM] perique says: thanks
[9:41:29 PM] perique says: how far into the Genesis CD Live Over Europe do we need to listen?

(The last questions wasn't delivered. Knew it was a long shot, but she hadn't signed off yet so I figured what the hell. Of course as soon as I hit enter, she was gone... neat trick, that.)

I also left a question on Ethan's blog and emailed him and Jade. Jade mailed back already but nothing substantial... I'll probably put that on the wiki to avoid more clutter here. I'm planning to work on the wiki some more tomorrow anyway.

23:59 could mean all kinds of things. Just before the end of the game? Literally at 11:59 on some day or other?

true so very true, in hind site we should have probably asked, "When do we need to meet Philly?" or at least that's all I can think of at the moment.

Yo, Mort!

Hey, maybe I'll do a little bungee off a 70 ft. overpass with an 80 ft. line (might knock a good idea into my head... O.o). I'll think about it, but I wouldn't hold my breath, if I were you. You cats are the experts on that sort of thing, I'm just the hired help (3 bonus points if you can name the ref to that last bit). The only thing at all that hits me with a word assoc. is the 'trust the sun', because all I can think of when I see that is Sun Trust ('cause there's an office down the street) - but I realize that is probably less than useful.

Anyway, I'll keep an open mind and let you know.

More soon,
Jade

Ooh, that reminds me. I was thinking that maybe the words were just in the wrong order, like maybe it should be "the sky point", "the sun trust", "the river gate", and (possibly) "the way light". Dunno where that would put us on the last two lines, though.

Dangitall, my email won't come up. Cursing Anyway, Sun Trust is a bank, Sky Point and Rivergate are apartment complexes, and I'm getting various business for other things I put into Google maps. Confused

"I'm just the hired help.".

Didn't Winston say that in Ghostbusters?

to spam or not to spam?

you guys want to see something odd. take a look at the second comment on this page.

I know it's not the same as those beginning here on WhiteChapel, but you would think if they are spam the PMs would remove them from the site.

So, makes me wonder if the ones on ARGN are spam or not?

it was spam

ARGN deleted the comments. To me, that's proof positive it's spam.

good news, bad new I really don't know how else to proceed.

got a reply from Ethan today from an email I sent a few days ago.

Quote:
Dear Sylvia,

Not tired of hearing from you at all, as a matter of fact it is always refreshing (just wish I had better ideas to bounce back at you). I don't know, I'm trying to think if there appear to be any other common elements among the messages. There were a couple references to the Borges book, but those were in the same message. I'll have to look at those tracks again and see if anything JRRT leaps out at me.

There was something else that I thought of at lunch today that I thought might make sense with MSG4, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was (the one day I didn't have my pen and notebook with me. see.). I'm sure it'll come back.

Regards,
Ethan

I'm sure you are getting tired of hearing from me and my dim ideas but here I go again. Since, MSG1 was solved using a poem from "Lord of the Rings" do you think it's possible that MSG4 could have anything to do with that also. The CD you mentioned has a song title "The Land of Confusion." I was wondering if that might be related to "The Land of Mordor where the Shadows Lie" from "The Lord of the Rings." I have some other stuff from that line of thinking that may relate to "The Lord of The Rings" but it's 3:22 am and I'm begging to nod. Just let me know what you think about this and I will have a better understanding on how to proceed.

thanks
Syvia
