Epileptic Trees

... it's a term referring to wild, off the wall fan created ideas (the term was coined in reference to a particularly odd theory about the monster on Lost). Nothing special really ... but for the fact that Cloverfield is mentioned in the tvtropes.org article about the phenomenon

"The promotional campaign leading up to the release of Cloverfield was more or less intended to produce Epileptic Trees of all varities, which it did. Fan speculation identified the monster, unseen in trailers, to be any number of previously established beings - Cthulhu, Godzilla, Voltron - instead of what it actually was, an immature sea creautre that was awakened from dormancy from a falling satellite and became huge after exposure to a soft drink additive. This is not spelled out in the movie, but it's All There In The Manual"

I just thought it was interesting, if a little simplistic.

Wait, do we think Sea Bed Nectar made MGP huge? And so he was in the satellite?

This isn't a widely accepted thing, right?

...I don't really know what I think.

No, the satellite merely "awoke him from his sleep." I believe it's been said the the creature was dormant underwater for a Real Long Time.

That's what I'm saying.

I've spent the past month or so in a haze of painkillers due to surgery, and I just realized that I don't know what's generally accepted by everybody else. Which, naturally, will be what I believe.

OP's pasted statement is more or less it. In fact, I dare say it's the best summation of the whole thing so far albeit (as he put it) simplistic.

Somehow, that summation made me & all the time I spent on this feel useless...

My question...

How in the HELL can they rather concretely state in two sentences that (a) the Monster drank Slusho AND became huge because of it and (b) that this information was "all in the manual."??

Until they post some proof saying WHERE they got that info, I'm going to discredit what they say... And I give people the benefit of the doubt more often then not, but saying "its all in the manual." did it for me.

Show us all this manual...

That "All ther in the manual" is a link to another trope:

All There In The Manual
Information not actually mentioned within the show, but only found in other material related to the franchise. The difference between this and normal merchandising is that this information may actually be relevant to understanding the plot, making the audience wonder why the writers didn't put it in the show to begin with.

Also not some one added Probably to the end of that description.

Also note that its a Wiki, and therefore that summary was written by a Cloverfiend, and not neccesarily 100% accurate.
