A lot of people worked hard for over a month creating some amazing extra features for the HD release of "Cloverfield." At first it looked like not many consumers would see these features, as the release was planned for HD-DVD like Paramount's other recent titles. But now that Toshiba's HD-DVD format is dead, Paramount is scrambling to release "Cloverfield" on Blu-ray - on the original HD-DVD street date. As a result, the current belief is that there's not enough time to program all the extra features (including lots of new story stuff, along the lines of the viral campaign's backstory) in time for the Blu-ray release, and all this great work will be scrapped. That would suck! So I'm hoping that if you and others help spread the word, maybe the fans could make enough noise to convince Paramount Home Entertainment's marketing division to postpone the Blu-ray release by a few weeks so the disc can include all the extra materials. Demand it!
Thank you!

I would hope that they put those "Special Features" on the standard DVD release. Only a small percentage of people have a Blueray player as compared to the rest of us normal folk. I would not mind purchasing one but I refuse to do so until the cost of the movies drop. $100 for 3 DVD's is a bit out of my price range. I will stick to my 1080p upverter until then as it looks outstanding on my 61" 1080p Samsung.

@xboyonfirex: I can't blame you for being a skeptic. Hell, it's healthy. Nevertheless, you can check my history in this forum, 11808.blogspot (which is linked to in UF's index) and finally consider all the time and effort I've obviously put into Tagruato.

Yea im with you ( once again LOL ) . I got too many bills to plop down all that dough for a blu ray player or a ps3 or anything else that plays blu ray. I want all them damn special features on the regular dvd. Actually i just cant wait for the dvd itself. Im getting tired of watching my crappy bootleg dvd of it. But just got me a free 52" tv courtesy of my wifes parents ( they bought a new HD one, and just gave us their old one, which is only four years old, how cool is that), So even the bootleg looks damn good on the big screen

Yeah, with all the work you've put into this, I think the last thing we should be doing is doubting you and your word (although, if you're wrong, we reserve the right to burn you at the stake )
I'm with you two, too, Headman and Saiyan. Uni has me $20,000 in the hole already, so blue-ray's just gonna have to wait.

Well I don't know what you mean by that, Paramount is NOT going to be releasing HDDVD's anymore. No matter how far into production they were on Cloverfield, you WILL NOT see Cloverfield on HDDVD. Blades of Glory was to be released on Blu-ray the week Paramount went exclusive with HDDVD, as a result it was pulled from all retail shelves the Tuesday it was set to be released.
Sorry folks.
Maybe the Blu-ray dept. at Paramount should work overtime... Get Clovey out on time day and date with the dvd.[/u][/i]

Funny! Just as I typed that last post, I found this little morsel of gold!

Just days after the announcement that "Bee Movie" would be DreamWorks' next big HD DVD release, that deal is done—as in, it ain't happening.
Both DreamWorks and Paramount have just announced (via Video Business) that they are done with the defunct format.
The final HD DVD titles for Paramount will be "Into the Wild" and "Things We Lost in the Fire," which will be released on March 4. However, there will be no "Bee Movie" (which was scheduled for March 11) and no "Sweeny Todd" (April 1). For now, both titles will only come as standard DVD releases.
As previously announced, "There Will Be Blood" will also only be available on standard DVD, starting April 8.
Neither studio has announced its first Blu-ray titles.

So now that that's said and done... We just need the official Clovey Blu-ray announcement... Anyone want to time it?

That would be awesome! But as the OT poster stated, the day and date release may not happen, and if it does, we'll get a bare bones Clovey release for Blu...

In the "April 22" thread I indicated this link offering the BLU-RAY future release in Amazon.co.uk:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cloverfield-Blu-ray/dp/B00147AJMM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1203568946&sr=8-2
Now that link has been changed to a HD-DVD release which can't even be pre-ordered.
But now, in the same site, we have a DVD release for the same date that appeared when it was still labelled a Blu-Ray release. Check it:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cloverfield-Michael-Stahl-david/dp/B0014E9174/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1204311641&sr=1-7
June 9, 2008.
They're still speculating about something that hasn't been officially announced.

Release Date Hi everyone.
I know that you'll all probably flame me or something like that or call me a troll, but here goes anyways.
My wife and I own and operate an Independent Video store in Massachusetts and we've been asking our Distributor Rep about info on Cloverfield for the last month or so and she's been telling us to keep our mouths shut about the release date.
I just couldn't help myself any longer as we are both HUGE Cloverfield fans. (so much that we have the Theatrical Standee up in our store.)
If you need pics of that for proof, we can provide them.
Anyways, what I really wanted to add to the discussion is that the release date that has been shown on Unfiction is actually one week off.
The Release has either been changed or altered a little bit due to circumstances that we don't know about.
The actual release date now is.......
April 15th.
One week earlier than previously thought.
If you want, I can copy and paste the order form from our Distributor.
The only thing that we're kind of bummed about is the fact that this gives them less time to work on special features.
I guess we'll just have to wait to see what they put on there.
Oh yeah, by the way, our Rep said that she doesn't have a SKU number for a Special Edition or Collector's Edition yet. So it might not release on the same date.
A la - Grindhouse. Special Edition releases this June.
So go ahead and tell me that I'm some troll or liar or something. I just thought that this would be some good news for a change.

You don't know what I mean by that? I mean that I don't have enough money right now to be able to buy anything capable of playing blu-ray...unless you wanna send some cash my way. I have no problem with the blu-ray format, it's just gonna have to wait.
