Maybe she's got the "sort of are alone sort of are scared" message too. The little thing sounds so cute and hopeless and vulnerable... aww... I think I heart it... anyway, it's entirely possible that she's not unplugging the machine because she knows that that would kill it too. *ahem* why don't we have, like, a "dorky" smiley?

Dana's vs. Aunt M's machine How do we know that Dana was snagged at her computer, and not Aunt M's machine?

Hee, yanka, I know what you mean. But still, that would imply that she knows more about what's going on than she's telling us, because we have so many people speculating and wondering who's the 'bad guy' in our little story so far.
I wonder what her possible motivation could be for protecting the speaker of "are lonely, are scared" if she's so freaked out by the entity that sees her through her webcam?
Even if the machine were at Aunt M's house, you think, considering all the concern she's expressed for her Aunt's reaction to the screwed-up website, that she'd take the machine offline there, and not put Aunt M in any danger.
"Aunt Margaret, I'm gonna leave this machine on, but please, just, please don't check your e-mail. Here's ten bucks, go down the block to Kinko's and use their internet service, OK? Gotta go, uh, right now ."

Then why would she leave, if it were such a dire situation? She just left the machine running?
Something's not adding up.
Hmm. I feel like just abandoning the whole thing is a very human reaction, even if it doesn't make perfect sense. She's spooked and she just wants to get away from it.
I do hope there's more to it than that, but I also feel like her apparent reaction is perfectly believable. It's what I'd be tempted to do.

also, if she just unplugged the computer the game would be over, and that wouldn't be very fun now would it ?

Hey, what can I say? I like my ARGs a bit more immersive. Her actions, as they stand, don't seem so believable/reasonable to me. I'm willing to wait on further information, though!

it's kind of like horror movies where everyone decides it's best to split up

From "Common Sense Rules That Horror Movie Characters Always Break":
Rule #5: When the attacks start, never "go it alone" or pair off.

I have considered that maybe Dana isnt leaving for china but leaving the planet. I know this may not make since. What if from all this she fears some kind of attack.
Maybe she knows something she is not telling or is someone she is not telling. Maybe she knows what the countdown is for

I think if dana knew something, she'd tell us before she left. she's been really helpful and friendly to us for the most part, and has no reason to keep secrets from us.
also, i'd spec that the AI is stuck on the site, and on the 'net, not Dana's computer. it'd stand to reason that dana's shut the thing off, or unplugged it at least once before she left.

Wait, wasn't the webserver running off of Aunt M's computer? So those photos were taken at Aunt M's?
Who the hell runs away and leaves their aunt alone with a killer AI? Bad move Dana.

Hmmm.... Could we possiably be assuming too much when we say Dana simply jumped ship and left everyone else to deal with the problem themselves? Do we have any evidence supporting this? Is it a fesiable spec. that she got everyone physically connected with the infected machine out of what seems to be harms way?
