OK, that's perhaps a clue.

It was also a little bit unusual in this sentence: "And I'm surprisingly happy that her dog is okay too." ( I thought in that moment about http://yorishappydream.mfbiz.com/)

I've even send to Yori an email with some thanx and stuff and with a question like "How are you now? How is your dog?"
I wonder what she will answer.

I e-mailed Lizzie and asked her about Yori's dog. I asked if it was doing well and whether it appeared to show signs of trauma from the recent goings on. We'll see what she says about it as well.

Cool! After that we can compare the replies and... perhaps start to be cautious Smile

Notice what I bolded - Yori has a cat, doesn't she? So, I see this meaning one of several possibilities:
1.) Liz is in trouble and trying to secretly tell us something
2.) It's not Liz, but a Junker agent
3.) Yori is trying to tell us something
4.) It isn't Yori

I'm fairly sure we can rule out 4, judging by how Yori broke down after telling her what happened at Takeda. From what I've seen, Junkers don't HAVE emotions. Not even fake ones.

@ksomopol and MrT
Good plan.

@Illy
Agreed - almost has to be something strange with Liz, except that she wasn't the one who came back from the dead...

So, once again we have many things we haven't used yet. Eric mentioned this in Part I of the latest diary entries:
Eric's diary wrote:
I wish that I had never found that book with that article. "planaria: Memory transfer through Cannibalism".

I think that is the second mention of finding that book.

Also not sure how we can use this from the diary:
Eric's diary wrote:
So that is (w)hat happened. I still blame myself for
it. After a long search I found that there are mass
graves around the (w)orld. I don't kno(w) ho(w) man(y)
students and intellectuals (w)ere killed and had
their memories removed. I am no(w) heading to Japan.
I am sure that I (w)ill find something there that (w)ill
provide conclusive evidence to stop them

That gets me thinking too. Is there a reason there are so many X's and Y's or other letters missing from the diary?

MrToasty - The problem is that the planaria article is an article. I have no way of searching the library for books that contain the article. On the other hand, the library is known to keep physical copies of the journals in which the articles are published. It could be that the "book" Eric refers to is really a journal issue that contains the article.

I'm grasping at straws.

Emailed liz, asking if she's ever seen Yori's dog, and what breed it was. Also asked if it was cute. Almost asked if it was "Kawaii", but decided against it, figuring that liz probably doesn't know Japanese. Which, in retrospect, would have been smart. Junkers would probably forget she's not supposed to know Japanese, exposing any impostors

Most professional journals are kept hard-bound by year/volume. I couldn't get access to the TAMU catalog to check, but if you look for the specific journal title, not the article necessarily, it may be there.

It appears that the TAMU library does not have a hard copy of the Journal of Neuropsychiatry - the journal I believe to have the original McConnell work.

Should we contact John and ask if he can remember Eric carrying an old book or talking at length about some old book he found in the library?...other than the Russian book pictured in the blog.

Off topic note: McConnell was a target of the unibomber.

I was also wondering about it first (and thought about chromosomes etc.),but then I've realised, since x, y, w are not in the code and are replaced by spaces, it could be very banal explanation: he used an symbol font and this keys (x, y and w) wasn't occupied by any symbols.

Btw, Liz answered me after I've send her sudoku password:

Quote:
You're partly right - it is great that Yori & I are okay but we need to make sure that the trashmen's plan doesn't get completed!! Otherwise, none of us will be okay!!
KRGVBVLWT doesn't look like any word I know or in any language I know but that doesn't mean anything as I'm not an expert in any languages. But I'll keep thinking about what it could be & I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

She seems to be a little upset.

Btw, who else does use the definition "trashmen" to Junkers?

How about the Journal of Neurophysiology?

Working on it - perhaps I can find this issue in our library.
Anyway, there was another article about that work, "planaria: Memory transfer through Cannibalism reexamined"
http://www.jstor.org/view/00368075/ap003827/00a00460/0
(if you haven't an access, I can send a screens)

And I also found something here:

Index is bound in the back.

McConnell's 1962 work is the one mentioned by Eric. Correct? Is it in the Journal of Neurophysiology?

Wiki is a little ambiguous, so I'm not entirely sure. I did find one other possible reference:
J.V. McConnell, Cannibalism and memory in flatworms. New Sci. 21 (1964), pp. 465–468
