Re: Swimming outfit

The goggles and outfit ariadne wore when she woke up seem to be for an Olympic swimmer from 1920. http://www.findthelostring.com/ariadne/detail.do?postId=1024

I can't tell which country the swimming outfit is associated with since it's just plain white with blue (or black) piping.

I would say that Ariadne's peak physical condition is due to her training as an Olympic swimmer. Why she woke up with a swimming outfit from almost 90 years ago is anyone's guess.

That's interesting it's a swimming outfit.

According to this History of Women in Sports site:
1920 - Female swimmers become the first American women to achieve full Olympic status. Ethelda Bleibtrey (1902-7Cool, held the world record in the 100-yard backstroke when women's swimming was added to the Olympic program. The only three events were the 100-meter and 300-meter freestyles and the 4 by 100-meter freestyle relay, so she entered all three and won three gold medals.

Although that outfit and goggles appear a bit futuristic looking to be from 1920. I mean, things were getting more... racy (for the time) but that's still a bit...

Do you have a picture to back this up?

They seem to be mis-placed. The american woke up in south africa, and the German man woke up in the UK. Do we know if the others are similarly in a different place than their apparent nationality?

[SPOILER] Terms and Conditions

Because of legal wranglings, sites are forced to put Terms and Conditions on commericial ARG websites. This is definitely a behind the curtain kinda thing, so don't bother reading it if you don't want that ruined for you:
http://www.findthelostring.com/ariadne/terms.do
It's linked at the bottom of the website and gives a bit of background on who is sponsoring this.. I was surprised as hell when I saw the big name behind it..

It definitely means this thing won't be done on a small scale... global is probably more like it...

Reasonable speculation, but I'm a little skeptical that a one-shoulder swimsuit is competition equipment or even modest enough for the period.

Good point. Also seems that all swimming suits from the 1920s Olympics for women were one-piece (the outfit on the blog is two pieces). Scratch that idea!

I do like the "toga" style though. Could be a way of pointing to the Greeks, Greece, Olympics. Bah, wrong ancient civilization.

Is Ariadne supposed to be American? She says in the video that the doctors can't place her accent. Her intonations sound Australian but it sounds like she is trying to fake an American accent. Is her accent-faking part of the game or is that just an indication of the actor's accent-faking limitations? The latter would make sense since there is at least one well established ARG designer in Australia (see www.find815.com)

Those goggles!

The toga is one thing -- I find the goggles completely fascinating. They're opaque! Ariadne says: "kind of a cross between goggles and a blindfold."

The only reference I can find to opaque goggles anywhere is re: the Special Olympics. In blind swimming events, contestants who aren't completely blind have to wear them. (Reference.)

Oh I don't know, enaxor, I think you had a good point about the ancient Greek reference.

See the "exomis" entry here.

From the page source (I took out the last ">" since including it removes the text):

<!--heroine worldActivity--
<!--heroine twitter--
<!--heroine missions and take quiz--
<heroine>
<!-- heroine tags search and archive--

There seems to be repeating references to "heroine" (the comment-entry error message, see my post above). Could be a password later on?
