[QUESTION] The Haunted Apiary What does title this mean/where does it come from? I have not seen it in any of the "quick guide to the whole story" things.

When we started working on this puzzle game (i.e. when Steve told us about his letter filled honey bear) it was the great and Munificent SpaceBass who gave the game it's UF name - Haunted because of the random bits of text and code and more text inserted in pictures, overlaying parts of pages and that Black count down screen on the front page. Apiary because that means "Bee House."
Of course this was several days *cough* WEEKS, weeks before we had ever heard of the web site showing up in any trailer.
You are welcome to call it whatever you like, we just want to be able to have a named forum for it, because it beats calling it ARG number 5 of year 2004.

Why are people that play the games or some users so dang rude. Do you feel special that you can use the trout icon. I would think you would want new players on the site. Not be an @$$ everytime they make a small mistake in your grand view.
Sorry I know that wasnt needed here.
And, thanks for telling me where the name came from!
Is calling someone an @$$ for being rude considered fishy? I would hate to make someone mad at me for enjoying this so dang much

In my humble yet adminstrative opinion, y'all need to chill the out.
Trout, by definition, is supposed to mean "Yes, that is nice, and I like you as a player/person, but yeah, we've already talked about this." NOT "You're an ignorant turd. Please go away."
I agree, people are overloving the trout emoticon like it's their new virtual girlfriend, BazoomaGirl. I would totally be okay with it if people left the trout emoticon for uber-trouts, so that the poor trout's tail would cease to be so chafed day in and day out.
Regardless, trout isn't, nor should it be construed as, some form of attack on the troutee's intelligence or cup-size. People who "love" the trout should not be identified by people as anuses of gaming. Furthermore, quibbling on the board about being trouted or the person who performed the trouting is really... really... unnecessary. Its why there are private message options. Learn them, love them, use them.
I shall now stop lecturing and allow you all to get back to BazoomaGirl.
EDIT to add: If you knew it wasn't needed here, then why post it?! GAH. Inner Monologues and Private Messages are your friends!

It's just an icon. A funny one, at that. So, relax. I'm new here too, and if someone did that to me, I'd take it for what it is... A joke.

For the sake of accuracy, we received the package on 7/16, about a week before the trailer hit the web (not weeks). Also, this showed up on dana's blog on 7/17:

So, was I hallucinating when I saw www.xbox.com turn into www.ilovebees.com at the end of the Halo 2 preview before Spider-Man 2 yesterday?

Alph Tech / STUART was the first to notice the web address and post about it, but it got lost in the noise.

The official definition of trout, quite eloquently written by Dan Fabulich, can be found on the Cloudmakers list here . Pretty much what Scrappy said, in that you shouldn't take it as an insult rather than a term of respect.
