the Labyrinth

The shape of the maze that Diego kept drawing on things looks really familiar. I just can't remember where I've seen it before. Confused I need to rummage through some of my books and find it.

It's very just a classical labyrinth. It matches a few of the pictures on wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labrynth

a classical labyrinth from the Nordisk familjebok (Wikipedia) and the article on turf maze has relevant discussion.

Recall that Markus was found at the turf maze outside York.

A bit late on the entry, but the school notified me that I received a package today, which contained the poster, postcards, string, and fortune/web address that came in all the other packages. It was apparently delivered Saturday, but I only was given notice today.

My fortune on the paper slip reads "You will soon see the ancient truth hiding in plain sight."

ETA: Pictures up here.

Package info:

Box message: unravel the mystery ... 03.03.08

I emailed A about that, she replied:

hi celina,

i took a photo of my shoes for you, what do you think? they're like cleats/running shoes. no special marks or tags...

one interesting thing is they're pretty dirty... although to be honest, i don't remember if they were that dirty when i woke up, or just got that way from making my way through the very, very long labyrinth path...

Those look like sprinter's shoes. Lots of grip at the ball and toe, none on the heel.

Those look to me like something from HS track (its been awhile though) I think some had screw-on spikes, although those shoes might have been from soccer.

Anyway... could be dust/sand from the long jump/triple jump?

The photo close-up she sent of the goggles showed a little of the same dirt on them.

From the list I posted earlier of sports at the 1920 Olympics, these shoes rule out a lot of sports. I reduced the list to eliminate sports that definitely couldn't use a shoe like that (swimming, ice hockey, diving, etc)... but there may be more here below that don't use that type of shoe either, I'm just not that familiar with sports footwear...

* Archery
* Athletics
* Fencing
* Football
* Hockey (non-ice)
* Modern pentathlon
* Rowing
* Rugby
* Sailing
* Shooting
* Tennis
* Weightlifting

Translating videos & dotSUB

I've got a request out to a Japanese-speaking friend to help with nanashinonoriko's video, but I wonder if there's a more systematic approach to this... Babelfish definitely isn't going to cut it Wink

Does anybody have any experience with dotSUB? One thing I'm thinking is that it might be useful not only to translate these videos into English -- but also to translate the English stuff into other languages. That's exactly what dotSUB is for -- and at the very least it might be a resource to find translators who will help out.

You know what? I just noticed something... I sent this to Ariadne.

Quote:
Hello Ariadne,

I'm very sorry, I've not said word one to you all day huh? My friends call me HitsHerMark, or Hits, or HHM, or "late for dinner". LIke the people you've been emailing back and forth with, I'm interested in helping you solve your little memory problem. My friends and I like to solve mysteries, we like helping people, and we're kind of a hive mind. So sometimes I forget I'm an individual. Well, not really but... I hope you know what I mean.

I've talked briefly to Markus, the German speaking fellow who has found himself in the UK under the same circumstances as yourself. And I mentioned to him what was mentioned to me about Kai's plan to make your side accessible to the others in your situation and gave him your email address. Which, even considering this unusual situation, was probably very rude of me.

So, I'm an individual who is apologizing for that.

I hope you do not up and vanish, as you seem like a nice gal.

- HHM

And I got this back

Quote:
hi hits!

that's actually good, thank you for passing on my email address... i haven't set up a flickr account to leave comments for markus, so i was hoping someone would send him my way. thank you!

i haven't received an email from him yet but hopefully soon...

weirdly i think i know what you mean about a hive mind. the dream i have every night, the feeling i have when i'm picking up the goggles is like i'm pulling pieces of me together, but that i'm bigger than just me. so maybe it's like a hive mind, or hive eyes, or whatever...!

And looking at the other quotes from her here... She doesn't use capital letters in her emails.

At all.

But she does use them in her blog posts.

Odd.

I got a clew today. I'll have no pictures, I'm afraid, because my digital camera bit the dust. But here are the vital statistics:

Box message: follow the clew ... 03.03.08

Fortune: You will soon write an amazing story.

Photo postcards: RAAIM072, XAALN033, XXAARI024

Yarn: White/lime/beige

All the other details are just like the others.

Has anybody contacted Noriko yet? I know a little Japanese and would totally be willing to try and get in touch with her...but I'm not really sure what to say. Anybody have anything they'd want to ask her?

(I looked at the video...however I could only pick up on a few things. I'll write more later).

How stupid am I: in Diego's profile in Hi5 there are pictures of when he woke up and it's like a pijamas (should have seen that before I emailed him). Also to note, he says when he stops to rest for a bit, he starts drawing a maze, he doens't seem to be able to get that out of his head:

Mr. Toasty, where did you find that? I can't see it. Anyway, I don't know if it's important, but that's brazillian portuguese (as opposite to portuguese from Portugal). There are slight differences, both in writing and oral form - kind of like the difference between american english, and british one.

The language on Diego's Hi5 photo gallery is straight up Spanish.

photo 1:
Diego in front of a iron bar fence:
"Tengo amnesia, ¿me reconoces? ¿me has visto alguna vez?"
"I have amnesia, [do] you recognize me? have you seen me sometimes? "

photo 2:
The Tattoo
""trovu la ringon perditan" ¿Alguien vio este tatuaje alguna vez? ¿Alguien tiene idea del significado de trovu la ringon perditan?"
trovu ringon perditan.. Somebody seen this tattoo sometime? Somebody has an idea of the meaning of "trovu ringon perditan"

Photo 3:
Diego in the labyrinth
"El laberinto donde desperté, en la localidad de Don Torcuato"
"the labyrinth where I woke up in the locality of Don Torcuato"

Photo 4:
Diego in the labyrinth
"Aquí es donde desperté, con los ojos vendados, sin saber nada de mi pasado"
"Here it is where I woke up, with the bandaged eyes, without knowing nothing of my past"

Photo 5:
Diego in front of the gray graffiti'd wall.
"1.81m, 82kg, pelo castaño, ojos marrones"
"1.81m, 82kg, brown hair, brown eyes"
(5.9 feet) (180.7 lb)

Photo 6:
Diego on the curb.
English caption.
"I understand and speak some english. Do you recognize me? I have amnesia"

Photo 7:
Chalk drawing on road.
"Uno de mis dibujos"
"One of my drawings"

Photo 8:
The money is Argentinian.
"Cada vez que paro un rato a descansar, garabateo el mismo dibujo"
Each time I stop and rest, I scribble the same drawing.

Photo 9:
The envelope is Argentinian. Postmarked Dec. 21, 2007
