This is the first DVD that I'm actually looking forward to as I usually wait and find them used or at a bargin price. Not the deal with Cloverfield, however, I can't wait to get control of a crystal clear version of the movie.

The only other one i anticipated this much and got as soon as it went on sale at midnight on the release date was Transformers, looks like ill be at my local Walmart at midnite on the 22nd of april if this turns out to be true. I want the real thing so bad. got my bootleg which is pretty damn good , unbelievably, but its not the same as the real thing

Good article on the DVD release.....

We Aren't Buying Into Rumored Cloverfield Problems
By Rafe Telsch: 2008-03-04 20:13:41
http://www.cinemablend.com/dvdnews/We-Aren-t-Buying-Into-Rumored-Cloverfield-Problems-9273.html

If there's one DVD I'm looking forward to in the future it's Cloverfield. I was one of those who enjoyed the movie and can't wait to see it again and catch some of the subtle clues that were woven into the movie. Plus a commentary track just might finally explain some of the game going on behind the movie and explain just what's going on with the monster. Then news started to spread that Paramount was already prepping for a pretty awesome HD DVD release when the format lost the race, and the studio is now scrambling to have something ready for a Blu-ray release, which may mean less content or a double-dip on the movie.

When I first read this story over at Filmstalker, I was annoyed yet again by the high definition format war. Even with Blu-ray now the victor, consumers were getting screwed. Then I started poking around. It turns out, not everything you read on the internet is necessarily true.

First of all, the source behind the story is a site nobody seems to have really heard of, a blog (and a blogspot blog at that) titled Tagruto. Yes, it's a Cloverfield fan blog, but that doesn't instantly give them credibility, regardless of the word that this comes "from an industry source."

Secondly, while Paramount has switched over to supporting Blu-ray, they have not entirely stopped releasing HD DVD. While they did report that several previously announced titles weren't going to happen, I can't imagine Paramount would totally kill a Cloverfield HD DVD if it would give them a better product. It's a weak argument, however, because this is a studio, and if we've learned anything over the years, it's that studios rarely do what we expect, especially where money is concerned.

Finally, their argument is that Paramount is pushing to get something prepped on Blu-ray so they can meet the same release date with both DVD and Blu-ray. But here's the thing – Paramount hasn't officially announced any release date for Cloverfield yet. Nothing is announced on consumer sites like Amazon, and Paramount Home Entertainment's press site has no listing for the movie yet. That means there's no need to scramble anything right now, because the public and press isn't really on top of a release date yet. Paramount can take as much time as they need to put together the release they want.

It's kind of ironic that people have to be reminded not to believe everything they read when it comes to a movie, since this was a movie surrounded by false rumors throughout the entire waiting period for the film's release.

Why would Paramount have a huge problem getting a new release out on Blu-ray so quickly? It's not like they've never released a Blu-ray before. They were paid $150M to quit supporting Blu-ray last year, at least they got $150M out of it.

Either way, I hope to see a special edition of the movie, if it's only on DVD I'll "double dip" (don't know why that term sounds so wrong to me) and buy the regular Blu-Ray as well.

They still have to have a code and price for it, for the eventuality, its probably done with all dvd's wherever this was from.

OK, so maybe that's not true. What I do want is that steel box edition.

One other time I got excited for a DVD release, V for Vendetta. When I went out and purchased the special 2-disc edition I was badly disappointed. It was quite lame, and cost a good amount more. Granted I bought it the day it was released but it was 22 dollars which was significantly more than the regular version as I remember.

I just hope Cloverfield beats that, that's all. If they put even a small fraction of what we were exposed to on the DVD, it should pretty much rock my face off. I'm thinking at least the Jamie vids, and the destruction of Chuai videos. Anyone heard anything about specifics yet?
