Hello Dante,

That the site is very interesting. Do you really think that my experience and the Eli Mr. complaining of a relationship?
In a forest to help my mother said to me she felt good physically I can to take part in the selection of the Olympic competition has.
But I still can not recall prior to what happened in the end ...

In this last part, is she describing a dream??

I just had a very brief chat with her on GTalk and I asked her if she's discovered any foods that she particularly likes. She said something with Chinese characters which Google translated as

Quote:
Lin I eat my mother to cook food

And then she clarified in English

Quote:
i ate Mrs. Lin cook for me.

I think "Mrs. Lin" is being translated as "Mother Lin". So she's not talking about her mother, but a woman she has recently befriended and spends time with.

EDIT: Here is a transcript of our chat.

Eli Email

I emailed Eli Hunt with an offer of help.

My reply from Eli was a little more "put off"
Quote:
Dear Red Hatty,

Thank you for your interest in my research. I am quite busy preparing for an important lecture this weekend, and I have no time for dealing with any more "lost ring" nonsense. As is clearly stated in my FAQ, I have no information nor interest in that particular urban legend.

Yours sincerely,

Eli Hunt

You would think that 6 people with the tattoo and amnesia would spark interest, but Noooo

ETA: I got a tad bit snarky with my reply to him

Thank You Mr. Hunt,

Could you possibly refer me to someone who is interested in the lost
ring. I think the fact that 6 different people found all over the
world all having amnesia and that tattoo that says find the lost ring
- all are also in top physical condition, doctors that examined them
even said Olympic atletic condition, makes for more than just an urban
legend.

I only want to help them to find out what happened and maybe even get
their memory back. But, I can understand how a scholar like yourself
would consider a lecture more important than 6 human beings in need,
so if you could just pass on a referral to someone who does
investigate the lost ring, I would appreciate it.

 coincidence? I think not

I think that it is no coincidence that there were six agonothetai (game keepers) and there are six amnesiacs.

I think they must somehow be Game Keepers. But I don't think they've travelled through time. I haven't gotten the impression that this is a science fiction adventure.

And Game Keepers - what do they do? They train the competitors, referee the events and run the games. I have to admit that these people seem more like competitors than referees.

All the referees I know are mostly blind

Same reply here...

This answer from Eli Hunt's FAQ seems rather strange...

Quote:
Q: Do you have any upcoming public lectures planned?
A: I keep my public appearances to a minimum so that I can concentrate on my work. At least, that's what I tell my publisher. To be honest, a few nasty run-ins with die-hard conspiracy theorists have made me a bit of a recluse. I still love to give a good academic talk when invited. But I try to avoid sharing my schedule with the public.

about the wheelbarrows, Eli replies:
Quote:
Thank you for your interest in my research. Your reference to the blindfolded wheelbarrow race is quite a clever one, although I must say I myself am interested only in the ancient games, and not the modern ones.

Considering the antagonistic attitude I took with Virgil in H3ist, I'm trying to be polite with Mr. Hunt here. I made no mention of the "lost ring" since his FAQ said he wasn't interested in it. I got the same reply as RedHatty. I responded that I wished him the best of luck and asked where the lecture was to be held or if it was a closed forum.

We'll see how he responds.

EDIT: Response:
Quote:

The lecture is an event for a benevolent association in Cardiff. Unfortunately, it is a private event for members only.

Sincerely Yours,

Eli Hunt

I sent the link to Eli Hunt to all the amnesiacs, here is Markus' reply:
Quote:

Alles Gute,

Markus

Babelfish translation:

Thanks for the email, I will later this evening look at themselves the web page. Are again at the river run been going, and had, naja, I white not as I that to explain can. It was as ahnlich as a vision. I have already times said which I when running super feel mad, but that here was differently. It felt in such a way as if I was as easy as a feather/spring - my feet affected hardly the soil. And then everything did not become sharp, I saw to anything as white forwards mine eyes. When I came to me, I was beside the path because of the soil. I must have been unconscious there at least one hour, because a small group of people around me stood. As I awaked asked me someone whether I OK ONE was, whether they should call an ambulance. I felt somehow strange - noises seemed to be different, as if they played backwards and I had a loud whistling in the ears. I could think of nothing, as the word Thumos and the numbers 696. Perhaps do they have any notion which with me happened there? thumos696... which could only mean?! All property, Markus

Thumos696??? A hunting we will go Smile

thumos 696
courage

In Eli's video he said that "thumos" or courage was one of the characteristics that defines an olympic athlete

696... er... June of 1996?

I would guess that Markus represents the spirit of Thumos

That babelfish translation is wrong in a few spots. I've taken the Google translation and cleaned it up:
Quote:
Thanks for the email, I will visit the website later tonight.
I have already gone running by the river again, and had, well, I do not know how I can explain. It was a sort of vision. I have already said that I feel great when I run, but this was different. It felt like I was light as a feather - my feet have barely touched the ground. And then everything was flashy, I saw nothing but white in front of my eyes.

When I came to, I stood next to the path on the ground. I must have been unconscious for at least an hour because a small group of people was standing around me. When I awoke someone asked if I was OK, if they should call an ambulance. I felt somehow strange - noises seemed to be different, as if playing backwards and I had had a whistling [ringing?] in my ears.

I could think of nothing, but the word 'Thumos' and the numbers 696. Do you maybe have an idea what happened with me?

Thumos696 ... What could that mean?

All the best,

Markus

email from Markus

I sent Markus an email this morning with a link to Eli Hunt's podcasts on dotSUB. Markus replied to me and "Vlad" (whom I think is kosmopol here on Unfiction).
Quote:
Vlad, Ouro -
Ich habe Ihnen beide diese Email geschickt - ich denke vielleicht kann diese Information uns weiterhelfen? Keine Ahnung was das Wort und diese Nummern bedeuten könnten...

I'll paraphrase from Google Translator, kosmopol might give us a better translation later.
1. Markus will watch Eli Hunt's vid-casts later this evening.
2. Markus had a vision or dream involving the word THUMOS and the number 696.
3. It seems that this vision came on him while he was in a fugue or seizure state, which occurred during a run along the river.

from Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thumos wrote:

Thumos (also commonly spelled "thymos") (Greek: θυμος) is an Ancient Greek word expressing the concept of spiritedness. The word indicates a physical association with breath or blood. The word is also used to express the human desire for recognition.

Found your website today, intriguing. The founder of the Modern
Olympics, is I'm sure you are aware Dr William Penny Brookes. He had
his own Olympic games at Wenlock, and he also had a game with blindfolds.

Yes, the modern olympics had games with blindfolds. Amusingly, it was
Blindfolded Wheelbarrow racing. Where one person steers blindfolded
and another gets in a gives directions.

Whilst this is funny, it does make me wonder if Brookes was party to
some extra knowledge?

Chippy,
The problem with this tale is that there were no Olympics in 1855. The closest would have been 1856.

I'm not so sure that the amnesiacs are the Gamekeepers, since the gamekeeps trained the athletes, not WERE them. I would think since each amnesiac has a friend like Kai, that those friends are actually the Gamekeepers and they are in charge of training our memory-challenged friends. Just my 2 cents.
