It makes sense. They don't want to expose the public to Joshua just yet, but the beta testers are perfect labrats! Er...willing participants. Of course that's what I meant. >.>

And a new blog entry="Gah!" from Ivan
...stuff...
- Teach Joshua how to play "Quarters"
Interesting how he makes it a point to say intranet instead of Internet. So only people with email accounts in the lglabs domain can send him messages?

How does one teach a computer to play quarters? I would think pouring a shot down a drive slot would cause the magic smoke to escape.

Maybe that's the point? Ivan doesn't seem to be a happy camper. And, his quote is the only one not Alice.

But the "Our Team" page has a public email address to him. That's why I'm a little confused, but maybe I'm reading way too much in to this.

From the lglabs site on the "about" page:

Quote:
Working jointly with numerous educational institutions, and with a 700,000 square foot research facility in South Florida, we have created the largest and single most advanced computer system in existance.

From Ivan Zeloff's blog:
Quote:
I'm the guy that keeps everything running around here. That's not an easy task when you have a data center that has the floor space of five football fields and over 28,000 network nodes.

Five football fields is 288,000 square feet. That's a lot left over from 700,000. Wonder what the rest of it is for?

Thanks to pancito, we know that Russell is the one answering Joshua's public emails right now. I'm thinking once they feel they've gathered enough data, Joshua will take over, but until then they won't be letting him have too much public exposure just yet.

As far as what the rest of that extra space is for...no idea. All that extra space doesn't fill me with joy, though.

I actually sent it through the Beta mail, but I would imagine they'd filter all email. Shoulda picked 2001 as the movie... the whole 'Daisy' thing.

I know this is a dumb question Leyton, but did Joshua really reply "Answer pending"? or is that just you? I only ask because it's in a quote box and I don't wanna put something in the wiki that's wrong.

Not a dumb question at all, Natas; I should have elaborated. It did actually come up like this *** ANSWER PENDING *** in blue. - He now has answered the question though...

Quote:
Joshua, what is your favorite color?

Answer: I have no optical capabilities to speak of. Although I know what colors there are (I know the RGB color pallette and all 16,777,216 available colors, as well as names given to specific color combinations to facilitate their reference), I cannot perform a live quantitative analysis to determine which one would be my "favorite."

They apparently call me the "white rabbit" because my hardware is predominantly white. It would be bias to label that my favorite color without a spectral analysis of it and a comparison to other colors.

I discovered two things, Joshua can do basic math, and I can't come up with good questions on the fly.

Quote:
Quote:
Susan has a combination of pennies and dimes. There are a total of 14 coins total. If all the coins are added together, the value comes to $.50. Translate into a system of equations and determine how many dimes Susan has.

Answer: If "x" is the number of pennies, and "y" is the number of dimes.

1) x + 10y = 50

Also, as specified in the description:

2) x + y = 14

Subtracting #2 from #1, you get

9y = 36
y = 4

Substituting "y" in to #2, x = 10

Therefore, there are 10 pennies and 4 dimes, which correctly total 50 cents.

So, in answer to your question, there are four dimes.

His formatting is excellent, almost textbook. Now that I think about it, finding out how he reads, sees and interacts might be more important...

No fair getting Joshua to do your math homework for you. Wink
Oh, and Welcome!

I agree with this. Asking very general, simple questions may give us more than very specific ones. Leave the questions a bit vague and see how Joshua decides to interpret them.

This will be interesting.

By the way did anyone put their address when they registered?

EDIT. no i didn't really give them cc info, but I did give them my address, what the heck?

I did. We'll see if we get any swag, or maybe get recruited for another ARG in the future.

I'm hoping for the latter, I wish I got a package from "Find the Ring".

But gifts would be nice too.

I did as well. Usually, they ask for addresses for mailing clues, geocaching type puzzles, and dead drops. I can't recall the last time a non-corporate ARG gave out prizes.

Swag, as in free stuff. This could be anything from clues to a stuffed bear that must be destroyed to find something.
