This may seem random, but, Joshua calculates, 2,349,464 numbers of pi in one minute.

And in 30 minutes he calculates: 68,891,421

So I'll leave it to all you math mathematicians to figure out when he will be able to "break the record"

Got an answer to my question, definitely not what I expected.

Quote:
Let's say someone walked down a path until it forked. A nearby sign said one path went to safety and the other went to danger, but didn't say which path went where. A nearby information both had two brothers manning it, one always telling the truth, one always lying, as said in a pamphlet found on the booth's counter, but again didn't say which. If you only had one question to ask the two, total, what question should the person walking down the path ask to determine which path went to safety?

Answer: The question and the situation are not logical.

Why would a company or government entity purposely post employees at an information booth to misinform visitors that are passing through? And why would they make the fact that one of their employees is a habitual liar public through a readily available pamphlet? Furthermore, why would that same entity not do everything possible to prevent said visitors from entering a dangerous area, and post their best, most reliable personnel to protect visitors?

If those that are at the booth do not have my complete trust to ensure my safety, anything I may ask them is subject to scrutiny and therefore cannot be trusted as fact.

I would not proceed and would retrace my path back to where I started.

My question: "Can you perceive the space around you as a human would with some form of "senses" (Touch, sight, etc.) or is all your processing merely internal?"

Answer: "I currently do not have any means of sensory input. The only form of external contact I have is through the internal network to either specific terminals at the Looking Glass Laboratories corporate office or through very limited API calls that are part of the corporate website (which permit me to respond to these questions).

They suggested that I may eventually have some sort of sensory input enhancements, but they do not seem to know exactly what that will entail."

I thought that might be a handy question along the lines of the basic knowledge we are kind of lacking at this point. Oh, and I'm on board. I also suggested:

Movie: Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Music: Beethoven: Piano Sonata #14 In C Sharp Minor, Op. 27/2, "Moonlight" - 1. Adagio Sostenuto
Book: The Bible
Artwork: "The Dancer" by Henri Matisse

I'm not religious by the way, I just wanted to see what effect religion would have on a fledgling AI.

I asked Catherine about her parents:

Sorry to hear about your parents Catherine. I hope you don't mind me asking what happened to your mother. She passed peacefully I hope.

Thank you for your sympathies.

She was never really the same after my father died, and kind of withdrew from life until the end. she simply couldn't live without him, and although I tried to get her out of it there's not much anyone can do if someone just gives up on themselves.

As pointed out earlier, your desktop could calculate it faster.

I'm having an issue with the fact that there are only 27 people that work at this place and they have a machine there that would take up an entire office tower. The network admin of such a system would typically have a MS of Information Technology or better, have every cert. in the book, and be on a first name basis with John Chambers. It would take a team of dozens, if not hundreds of technicians to keep it running. I'm not sure if I'm over analyzing here or we're actually supposed to be picking up on the massive descrepency between stated bandwidth/computing power and the other things we're being told. Thoughts?

We're gonna have him all confused. I suggested the necronomicon.

Hmm, time will tell whether we're meant to be analyzing it that much. To be honest, as a layman when it comes to that sort of knowledge (i.e. totally ignorant) I wouldn't have a clue whether they were overstating, or understating. Maybe that's just me, but I'll leave it up to those *with* the knowledge to ask those sort of questions personally, if they so wish.

I think at this point it helps if we look at it from every angle to see if we can get any early hints of where this is going.

As soon as Joshua reads my selection, all effects will be negated.

I think we both might be overthinking (i.e. me with the 700,000 square foot vs. 5 football field thing). Who knows. don't let me stop your madcomputerknowledgeskills though. Keep them on their toes.

Hey, just thought as everyone else is putting down their interactions I'd chime in.

Quote:
Question: Which of the Looking Glass Labs team do you like the best?

Answer: I do not have favoritism for any particular employee at Looking Glass Laboratories. I enjoy the time I spend talking with each and every person on staff, as well as the Beta Testers.

Okay so "he" doen't have bias but "he" does know what it is to enjoy something, which I find interesting. I wonder if it's a programmed turn of phrase or whether Joshua can simulate happiness?

Film: Casablanca
Song: Clare De Lune, Claude Debussy
Book: The Science Of Discworld 2, Terry Pratchett
Art: La liberté éclairant le monde (j/k - I'm not that pretentious) Statue Of Liberty, Frédéric Bartholdi

Nearly went for I Robot but I didn't think it was that amazing as a film and I didn't want to give Joshua ideas either (ditto for the Terminator trilogy).

Hehe, same reason I didn't suggest anything from Asimov myself (besides figuring alot of others already have).

I'm thinking the rest of the space (from the 700,000) is gonna be office space. Though that's still a bit big for 27 employees. I say they either work in conjunction with other companies who use the other space, or they rent it out or something. If that's the case, maybe Ivan isn't alone with Joshua? But just the big head honcho with no qualifications? Confused

EDIT: Looking at the FAQ, I believe that if Joshua does indeed go rogue, we'll have a hell of a time taking him out.

All right, on a whim (and since I have nothing better to do right now), I decided to sign up for this Looking Glass Labs thing and pose Joshua a random question - very random, in fact.

Here's what I sent him:

Quote:
Hullo, Joshua. Call me Mac.

My question for you is this:

It is pitch black. What are you likely to be eaten by?

Joshua's response:

Quote:
Answer: According to the Looking Glass Laboratories website, a "grue." But I do not know what a "grue" is, as the term does not appear in the Random House Unabridged Dictionary.

A grue is a fictional predator from the Zork series of interactive fiction games by Infocom
from wikipedia.

infocom is also the same people that made the Planetfall series that I mentioned earlier in this thread. The quote "Boldly going where angels fear to tread" comes from a patch on the character;s uniform.

What's the connection with Infocom?
