The code doesn't rot to anything. I'm thinking it will be a vigenere, and the key for the code will be the rots for these letters he's sending us. For example, mine would be an i rotated 1 spot to a j.

The guess about the chess reference was based on an unhelpful fixation to this topic... I had my head stuck to chess pieces, which wasn't giving anyone advantages.

My apologies for unplanned misdirection by myself.
Anyone get me the red herring I unconsciously produced and spank me...
(I'd take a trout as a replacement. Honestly, I didn't want to nail it onto the chessboard.)

ADDENDUM: Did anyone else see the riddle from Sam's latest video (Just after the "Viewer discretion advised"-text)?
Maybe these two puzzles interact with each other (one is the code for the other)?

Well kids, I am poking my head up out of the books long enough to give my quarterly report...and this is quite a lengthy one.

Firstly:

I am eleven and C.

Secondly, I spoke to Rabid today and she was in a rush to get back to the hospital so she asked me to pass along a few messages for her. Firstly, her father got to go home from the hospital for a few days but they had to rush him back today...so pray for her, but if you are like me and don't do the praying thing, send her some well wishes and good thoughts.
