[EMAIL] to charles about Ann Starling

Here's the email I sent:

Quote:
Hello,

I've come across your site during some research I've been doing. One
item
seems to have completely devoured my attention. It is the story posted
on
http://www.cambridgementalhospital.com/stories2.html

I was wondering if you had further information you could provide me on
this story, possibly information on the young patient. Other lines of
searching led me to http://deadpoems.com/

The author of the site states his grandmother was a patient at CMH and
spoke to the dead. Perhaps it is just my imagination working up, but
the
similarities between the young girl from the story and this Ann
Starling
seem errie.

Also, I was examining the record you posted on
http://www.cambridgementalhospital.com/record8.html . In particular,
number 28. I was noticed it was a young woman committed by the town.
I
found it interesting that the entire town had a woman committed. Do
you
know anything further about her? Again, most likely my imagination
seeing
links that don't exist, but what is sleuthing if not an adventure?

Any information you could supply I would be grateful for.

Thank you,
asmyth

And his reply:

Quote:
Dear asmyth,

Thank you for your interest in the website and I am glad you have found
it so fascinating.

As for the tale told on the website that you mentioned and its
similarities to the story featured on my site, all I can really confirm
is that they do appear to indeed be very much alike in several ways. I
have no way of telling, however, if the two stories are indeed related
somehow or even if there ever was a patient named "Ann Starling" at
Cambridge.

The tale of the "strange patient" has been told at the Hospital for
years and years, and has become somewhat of an old standard around the
place. If it does have any basis in truth it must have happened decades
ago, long before I was born and raised there.

About the name "Beatrice Doe", it was a common practice for many years
that patients who had arrived at Cambridge anonymously or otherwise had
their identities lost or obscured be given variations of the "Doe" name.
This actually replaced a system where all the male patients were given
the name "John Doe" and all the female patients "Jane Doe", followed by
an identifying number. At some point the staff switched to the system of
using different first names for the patients, believing it to be a more
personal policy. Even so, there are almost certain to have been many,
many women called "Beatrice Doe" during their stay in the institution.

Sincerely,
Charles

Summaries can miss important information tho. This isn't a game you can really play by skimming things.

In Charles' reply to Asmyth's letter, Charles makes a comment about "Beatrice Doe." Where did he get the info about the connection with Ann Starling and Beatrice Doe? It's not in Asmyth's letter.

Is this supposed to clue us in on the "Jim Doe" picture?

Trout. Beatrice Doe is the name attributed to a picture. When reversed, it makes "Ann Starling".

Here's the pic: http://www.cambridgementalhospital.com/patients1.html

Although it is a little odd that he talked about the connection.

PM Slip-up?

That's not really a trout. I knew that already. What I was talking about was that Asmyth never mentioned Beatrice Doe.

What I meant was, how would "Charles" know about that connection?

I was wondering that too. I mentioned the record he has posted but made no comment about Beatrice Doe. I assume the PMs goofed and only skimmed my email and since the Beatrice Doe picture led us to Ann Starling thought I would have made mention of it. Not that I blame them for skimming my message, they must have a pile of emails to read through.

If I were you I'd e-mail him back and try to catch him on it. Force him to admit that he knows of the connection.

It probably was just a PM-slip, but I can't help but wonder:

Can that "slip" be a hint relating to the "Jim Doe" picture on the CMH website as I mentioned earlier? Maybe the PM wants us to forget about that picture...

Well I'd assume he does due to the amount of email he's received on the dead poems subject. So despite not asking a question about it, Charles decided to possibly head it off before I asked. Not that the Beatrice Doe name is a point I really care about at this point. I just wanted information pertaining to the disappearance of the attendant in the care of a young woman who was most likely Ann Starling.

For a story of that nature to exist at a place where a cast and crew disappeared in the same fashion makes me see connections and I just want to nail down my theory of what happened.

Chances are someone, at sometime, has emailed him about the ann starling beatrice doe connection. Just because it wasn't in this particular email doesn't mean he doesn't know and that it was a slip-up. Characters are likely to pull on all of the information they have, as a real person would, not just what one person has supplied them.

that said the jim doe niggles at me too.

summaries

Summaries offer a choice. Summarize the in-game replies, then quote both the sent email and reply in the body. That way people who don't want to read volumes of email can just read the summaries. Trust me, long into a game, the email volume can become overwhelming. Very little of it actually advances the story.
