UK only

I'm not so sure about the reasoning for it being UK only by that image, since it is supposed to be a UK governmental system. Is that just to establish the background / atmosphere? Also, I maybe wrong about this one, but it only seems to try to load the geoblock.swf (which didn't show anything when I googled for it) when you DON'T have flash. It doesn't seem to check when you DO have flash.

Finally, why advertise on US sites, when most ad providers allow you to target your ads by region? They would have spending unnecessary money to pay for the views/clicks in America when they could have easily limited it to the UK.

However, the servers that maiasutrn.com and emergencysubnet.com (why not .co.uk?) are hosted at UK based hosts, according to the whois for the name servers. I am leaning toward UK only as well.

Whoever is running it is watching the forums, as the open directories I posted earlier have been locked down (at like 3 or 4 in the morning UK time), so how about some hints as to if it is UK only?

I agree w/ Clu... I think this may have something to do w/ the actual subnet only being "open" toward British Citizens [In Game] as it's a specific subnet to those in the United Kingdom; I'm sure there'll be other aspects directed at others throughout the world.

....

Could someone rename this topic to '[Trailhead][UK Only]Subnet: Last Defence'
Seems more fitting.

Again... I have a feeling there's a "reason" only people from the UK are able to access the subnet sites; hey who knows? Maybe all this "happened" because of a conflict between the UK and the US or something [IG]... 0_o

And either way I am pretty sure there are people here (including me if I knew exactly how) who would copy and post/host things on here for our fellow ARGers outside the UK - Just like we did for the Torchwood game before they took down the UK only barrier.

-----

Anyway went back onto the video and was messing around w/ searches. I tried "Government", "Queen", "Attack" and then "Terrorism" - I'll post what I got in which order; although I don't think the pics are specific to the search items... What's interesting is when I did 'terrorism' I got a PDF file just like Clu only mine was labled def_462 which I am assuming means Defense... I'll post the screencaps of those as well.

I've a feeling that after a generated # of searches we're able to DL these PDF files; they're key IMO.

This is an OOG blog - Someone else who's watching/following the game. I've just read that. But that's a good catch on the photos.

I've also noticed if you do a search for Maia Sturn (the chick in the video[s]) she seems to have created a lot of profiles on gadget and mobile/cellphone websites and forums through the past days in March... And she also has a facebook profile. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1130725081

Here's a list of all Maia Sturn's forum posts through the beginning of March - As stolen off the Vox chick.

Quote:
March 3, AVforums: Mobile blogging?

Does anyone know of any software that allows you to bash out a blog post on the fly on say a PDA device? I know stuff exists already, but ideally i need a fast way of attaching an image and some text to automatically appear on a blog. I tend to come across a lot of street art i want to photograph and blog on, so would be great if i could: take a photo, quickly type a few words, then email to said-blog and then it auto-appears?

March 6, Core77.com: Injected Molded portfolio case

Thought I'd share this bit of info, we have had a couple of intern positions over at where I work, (Stockton Design Group) and one of the applicants brought in a truly gorgeous portfolio. I can't post any images for confidentiality reasons, but basically the guy had a really slim, clean injection moulded case holding a book that presented his product design portfolio.

The work inside his book was great too, and the case really enhanced it, (not to mention wow the office). Judging the cover sometimes matters!

March 7, Shinyshiny: iPhone/iTouch SDK

Looking forward to getting my hands on the iPhone SDK - maybe I can get it via work if you need some corporate connection to get hold of it.

I want to try making a virtual trackwheel, as I thought that was the perfect reduction on the iPod interface.

Maia Sturn

March 7, BoingBoing: What are the laws in each US state on driving while cellphoning?

Driving while using you mobile phone has been banned in the UK for some time now.

It still doesn't prevent the odd idiot doing it though (and in one instance I saw a chap lighting a fag and changing the CD at the same time)

Maia Sturn

March 6, Engadget: iPhone SDK conference

I can't wait to see what the gaming companies are going to come up with.

The possibilities are endless (with both tilt and touch)

I highly doubt there will be a 3G iPhone - well at least hope not! Smile

March 3, Porsche Club GB Forum: Speedster Hardtop

Hi, Maia Sturn here

This is by far my favorite... I'd be delighted to relieve the owner of it, but I think London's a bit far from Oz!!

Do you know of any good dealerships in the UK?

Thanks,
M
x

March 7, Porsche Enthusiast Site: I'm new here, be nice!

My name is Maia Sturn. By day I'm a product designer for Stockton design group in London and by night I'm a Porsche addict.

I love 911s but I'm determined to buy my baby one day... she's going to be a silver '56 356 Speedster. I'd murder someone for it LoL!

Edit: And on a sidenote it's clear that those over @ Kontraband and the Vox chick know nothing of "Grassroots" ARGs and feel that this is going to be crap or disappointing because it has "no movie tie-in"

Pfft... Amateurs LOL

This is the "Vox chick", and in my own defense, I played this game entirely thinking that someone was trying to get money out of me. You play for that long with that assumption, realising the whole thing is just some bloke's addition to his portfolio is pretty disappointing. And considering how amateur things have been going since Monday, it's even more disappointing.

I spent like, two days doing nothing but theorizing only to be disgruntled.

I'm still following the game and theorizing, but it's not taking up my every waking moment anymore. :( I'm also sorta looking forward to when this thing moves forward. Using proxies and being sneaky feed my inner American jerk.

I was only kidding... Hence the "lol" at the end of my comment. All I meant was people seem to get so peeved when they find there's nothing more to a particular ARG than storytelling and possibly puzzles. - And if it has nothing to do w/ a movie or game release then it's "crap" or "Disappointing" And that's the sense I got from your post and Kontraband... I wasn't trying to be offensive sorry.

On a sidenote you've done some awesome work w/ following this thing for sure.

Basically all my friends work for game companies, and when I see things like this that aren't attached to something particular for the means of PR, I start wondering: where are they getting this money and how do they figure they'll recoup it? I mean, that's the whole reason Majestic got shut down: no profit.

So getting addicted to these sorts of things always reminds me of the fear that mayhaps it'll never end the way it was suppose to (no tangible closure) due to low or no profits. And I can't live my life in fear. :(

"emergency services" in the search screen gives you:

The image poking out is my fault but I can't be arsed to fix it.

"maia sturn" gives you a looping vid of what looks like discarded artillery.

So is Maia IG or OOG? The 911UK.com account she used for the Porsche post was made in 2003. Seems as though there are either two Maias and the one who works for Stockton Design Group is OOG, or there is only one and the pm team couldn't be bothered to make up a fake name for her.

Given post 23 here I'm thinking it's the former.

That doesn't necessarily mean she's unlucky and people believe it to be her. It's kinda funny how all her facebook pics dont show her face; she's around the right kind of age and from London and her hair's very similar and I did a search for the Stockton group and couldn't find anything legit to point to it being OOG or even in existence.

I don't think it would be to hard to ask an admin to change the sign-up date of an account, just a little SQL. Even on those accounts that are older, the posts are all from the same couple of recent days.

How did you work out it was made in 2003?

Site updated

The site has been updated. The time out is much longer now, and there is a second clue is the section with the list of accesses. Screenshots over @ unfiction forums. I'm guessing that they are updating every midnight, GMT, hence the "Return Access estimated for 12:00" message when your time runs out.

@caRtaR - Searching for Royal Airways gets you the "Conspiracy" vid, searching for "Airlines" gets you the pdf with the status of the various powers space anti-sat systems.

Nice one Clu. I'm assuming you copied this over from posting it for those @ Kontraband?

Also I've noticed the ONLY website with relevance to Stockton Design Group is http://www.vidicam.com/ Where @ the bottom of the site it states

Quote:
© 1999 · Site Creation and Maintenance by the Stockton Design Group

Stockton Design Group is a link to the email address meSPLATcharlesstockton.com

I checked out www.charlesstockton.com and haven't found anything *IG* related just yet but doing a whois of the site brings this up...

Quote:
[whois.namesecure.com]
Registrant:
Charles Stockton Jr.
Worlwide Domination Inc.
P.O. Box 105
Shadyside, MD US
20764

Registrar: NameSecure.com
Domain: CHARLESSTOCKTON.COM
Created on 08-10-2000
Expires on 08-10-2016

Now the creation date seems well out of whack but the address kinda sprung out @ me.

Whois for vidicam.com

Quote:
Registrant:
Vidi Cam Productions
ATTN: VIDICAM.COM
c/o Network Solutions
P.O. Box 447
Herndon, VA. 20172-0447

Domain Name: VIDICAM.COM

Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
Stockton Jr, George
Vidi Cam Productions
ATTN: VIDICAM.COM
c/o Network Solutions
P.O. Box 447
Herndon, VA 20172-0447
570-708-8780

Edit: Nvm seems these are all OOG and they've just used the name Stockton Design Group for the game... Doing a whois of the emergencysubnet.com and maiasturn.com they both give this info.

Quote:
Status: clientTransferProhibited

Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com

Expiration Date: 2009-02-15
Creation Date: 2008-02-15
Last Update Date: 2008-03-03

Now what's odd is you say the sites been updated, Clu... But that info there is from emergencysubnet which says it was last updated on the third of March 0_o

And I'm still getting the 'failed' screen
