[META]Information Organization

There's been some discussion about how we should organize our information (keeping using the trailhead thread vs. not, etc), so here's a thread to do it in.

One thing I'm wondering - do the Mods have the ability to move posts into new threads? I know they can one some forums, not sure about unfiction. Cause if so it might be useful if some brave and noble mod went through the trailhead and gathered together all the communications into seperate threads for each of the characters into their own seperate threads.

Also, we need more people updating the wiki! If you're new to wiki's, I'd recommend checking out Wikipedia's wiki editing cheatsheet for an intro to how to format things.

I just finished a story so far that helps to condense pertinent information. Extra stuff can still be found in the individual threads.

I'd suggest making a "census" too, just to know what world areas we have "covered", after what Eli Hunt said in the note to Ariadne

The unfiction mods have that power, however forum policy is to change things as little as possible.

That isn't going to happen. In any case, I don't see the need. Now that the secret has been revealed and the pre-game is over, I think that all new interaction should go into organised threads.

I agree with your statements about the wiki. I think that everyone should have a go, and not worry too much about breaking things.
A wiki page that eloquently and concisely brings new players up to date without reading all the existing posts here at unfiction would be a plus.

Wow, you beat me too it, basically sums it up, as mods we can move things but generally only in extreme situations, to move everything from the trailhead to separate threads would probably cause a lot of posts to make no sense, but also would be incredibly time consuming.

I totally concur. (to a degree, obviously) don't worry about breaking things - if content is in there, it can be shaped and adjusted, nicified, by people more knowledgable of wikicode. The key is just getting stuff in there.

I'm personally of the opinion that Mods are not our mother, and shouldn't have to clean up after us. Very Happy

Red Hatty's "Story So Far" thread is awesome and the time line on theBruce's wiki has been updated to a new format. There's also an awesome Beginners Guide.

And because dead horses need to be beaten apparently:

While a certain amount of record keeping happens here, the purposes of the forums is discussion and not an archive. We have a wiki for archival purposes.

I know this maybe hard to believe, but I didn't actually spring fully formed as an ARGer from Jane's head like Athena. I was a newb too once, and I can say from experience that humongous threads with no organization is the most intimidating thing of all.

In the past, I've tried to get friends involved in the early stages of an ARG, before uf has given it its own forum. In every case, seeing the huge trailhead thread caused the person to run, screaming and naked, into the night.

Okay, that's an exaggeration. Some of them were wearing socks and at least one time was during the day.

We're not only for the hard core:
If a casual player comes to this forum and really just wants to talk about Eli Hunt's podcasts, they can look at the forums and see that there's a thread for each of his pod casts! How convenient! From there they may, and probably will, branch out, based on what interests them.

This seemed like the best place to put this question; apologies if it should be elsewhere, I'm kind of new to this.

These two pages on the wiki seem to be largely copies of each other, but with minor corrections not being mirrored between the two:
http://olympics.wikibruce.com/Artifacts
http://olympics.wikibruce.com/Codex_of_the_Lost_Ring

Wouldn't it be worth binning one or other of them?

We're having that discussion (er at least I started on) on the "discussion" page of the artifact entry. Or at least i talked about templating....
