This is my third attempt to provide a commentary on a movie recommended by someone. This song was actually recommended by Beta Tester #1195, who I will refer to as "T.Z.".

Turing

OOOh Man!
Just checked who the hell was Turing. And I am dead.
He broke the enigma, in WW2. Then he was the guy, who was most busy with AI. There is actually a Turing test- which is what we are doing now with Joshua (and which was the test in the Blade Runner)!!! Check wiki on it, NOW. The Turing test, The AI works...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing
This guy was talking about AI in the 50's. I mean I want his picture on my wall!Very Happy
BTW: can this code be enigma type code? I can't find the enigma's system on the net.

Woops. Enigma cannot be used, like that- as I found out. It depends on settings. But, I found something about "cribs", see wiki:

"The British bombe (deciphering device), designed by Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman, relied on cribs (supposed letters in a right place). Assume that a triple loop is found, e.g. abc. That means that, with a crib, plaintext letter a is mapped to cipher b, plain b to c, and plain c to cipher a again within a short distance (ideally plain: abc, cipher: bca)."
But that's chinese to me...Very Happy

I was about to go to bed, but had to look one more time... Even a medium competent cryptofreak could probably break enigma w/ the amount of computing power now available, but those folks hang out in like alt.crypto.oldschool or something. ROT is about as clever as ARGs get, I think, which you can actually do in your head, if slowly. Here is a better explanation of a crib: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crib_%28cryptanalysis%29

If you are interested in this kind of thing, but like fiction more than non, I can say I really liked Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson and you might too if the sheer size doesn't put you off (~900 pgs). You can usually find it used for a couple-four bucks. There's an example of a (pretty much) unbreakable cipher in the back of it that uses a deck of cards as a sort of reusable one time pad. Secure crypto for a couple bucks, no hardware required. It's late and my memory may be faulty...

We've been seeing some weird traffic patterns again this morning. Maybe it's 'cause I've been here all night...

If things start to act wonky, let me know.

I started reading Cryptonomicon, but the daunting length caused me to read it sparingly and slowly, and I eventually had to give it back to the original owner before I finished when I moved up to school. I'd like to finish it however. Another good cryptology book is Digital Fortress by Dan Brown, its much simpler and shorter than Cryptonomicon however.

If this ARG is based on War Games then at some point a hacker is going to get into his system. Or maybe someone here is supposed to hack it?

With the addition of the camera, and the repeated references to how their fortress is impenetrable (see: Titanic) I think it may be a distinct possibility that someone breaks in to Wonderland in the near future, and tries to muck with/steal/destroy Josh... (maybe the DoD?). Just a wild guess though.

(It'd be a pretty sick pic to see SpecOps repelling down from the ceiling though)

Bit of random spec while we wait for part two of the cube image to turn up.

The whole Infocom connection has me wondering. Probably the most famous line from their games is

Code:
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

And Joshua really doesn't like it when his webcam is off. And there is the creepy "Darkness" image in his blog, showing him as a rabbit in a spotlight surrounded by darkness.

In the Infocom universe, darkness always has grues in it...

What if Josh isn't the only entity running on the hardware in Wonderland?

New blog by Joshua

Hmm I know I have seen it before and am probably forgetting what it is, but that not a B, what symbol is that and what does it mean again. I know the other side is the surfboard meaning Dwayne.

I think the meaning's pretty clear, he wants us the Beta Testers (Beta symbol), to unite with Dwayne (Surfboard). The one thing I find strange is that Josh sees himself as an observer in his picture, not on his own puzzle piece to be united...

I posted to his blog replying

Sweet sentiment there Joshua but I am afraid some people are more resistant to it than one would like. Any particular reason you are enamored with it at this particular time? Maybe you can help us all understand your thoughts and obvious emotions on the matter.

Maybe this can get us some more info... or not

I just found out that wargames part 2 will be released this year(not sure, you know imdb). Did they mention any wargames reference in lglabs.net ?

ETA: Sorry for the confusion, what I meant was if they acknowledge that wargames is a movie/game?
