[TRIVIA] Why does Dana have a Gmail address...? I've used search, didn't come up with anything...
Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that Dana has a Gmail e-mail address?
This game is, after all, indirectly created by Microsoft, and clearly, Dana is one of the "Good Guys" in the story.
Now why would they give a good character, an e-mail address with a company that is probably the biggest threat to Microsoft's online mail monopoly?
That really doesn't make a lot of sense...

Because the PMs can do whatever they want basically. They are not tied to Microsoft. If that was your logic, why aren't the websites hosted in Redmond?

Yeah but Microsoft would at least have to give permission to launch a publicity stunt for Halo2 (if that's what it is)
So, I don't really think they would allow that to happen...it's still pretty weird to me, knowing Microsoft...

Give permission to who? Did you mean get?
Assuming so, no, they wouldn't. Hell, if I was an angry Microsoft exec and I was going to launch a heavy trafficed promo for a popular game, I would use gmail too. Let Google deal with all that extra traffic while you STILL get all the rewards.

I'm guessing this thing is an idea of somebody at Bungie, only they would come up with something this cool.
So probably Microsoft gave Bungie permission to do this ilovebees riddle.

..or it could be neither. This all could just be part of the marketing budget of a third party hired on to promote the game. Doesn't matter really
In any case, I don't think anyone cares who's using what. In the end, everyone wins. Google gets extra attention for it's Gmail service, Microsoft/Bungie get crazy good marketing for a new game, and we get something to do with the time between birth and death we would have wasted anyhow doing something equally as trivial.

Maybe because it is a fast reliable service and with the 1000s of emails they are expecting to get you can't beat the price.. 1GB for free.
(Sure you could use something like Spymac for the same thing, but that site stinks)

In addition, they want to make it seem natural, thus the "good-ol'" email service that everyone knows, hotmail, for the lady who barely knows what a computer is... and the new fangled cool and hip gmail for the cutting edge website designing niece.
Oh, and it means there is less direct connection with microsoft. Plus the 1GB of space would be very useful when the account is the only real contact that players have with the game.

I've read this a couple of times throughout the posts, and on a number of sites.. And I just don't believe Bungie would hire another company to do anything this size, with creative control over it.. I believe it's completely Bungie's doing, but maybe also with some people from Microsoft helping out (the people behind the beast?)..
But I could be wrong!

Hotmail isn't a Monopoly.
Just because it's connected to Microsoft doesn't mean it's a monopoly.
God I love you people. You're the kind of person who thinks he's being cute or funny by calling Microsoft "M$" or "Micro$oft". That stuff was funny. Was. Once. In 1992.

Personally, I prefer to remember Microsoft to their humble origins and keep calling them Traf-O-Data.....
As for Dana, I have personally written her off as walked offstage in this bit. Methinks we will have to deal with whatever is left on her site. (means she merely set the stage for the rest of the story) But thats only my own opinion.....

Dana has a GMail account because if you sign up for a Blog thru Blogspot (which is where ILoveBees is hosted) you can get a FREE Gmail account.
http://www.blogger.com/home You can see the link for the free account on the right side of the screen.

I also think that's the reason. It's just logical (and more realistic if you want).
btw: could we stop that microsoft bashing? thats so last century. microsoft has become a lot more open recently. (just look at channel9 )

Microsoft and ARGs Just in response to what someone said above about how Bungie probably came up with this stuff on its own... in the open letter it's pointed out that Microsoft has done ARGs before, so it could very well have been Microsoft's idea.
Ah well, if it's made by Bungie or Microsoft or both or a random person at the Ant Farm, it's still cool.
