hi Stephanie,
It seems that there is alot of information missing regarding Alex. Some of that could be located on his computer, that he left with you. Maybe you could check his computer for anything that looks suspicious, or helpful. Our group is particularly good at decoding information, so if you come across any files that need looked at, feel free to send them.

I am having a few problems with the dates. What day did he actually go to Atlanta? What day was he last heard from? And any other details, like where he called from last, did he rent a car in Atlanta?, where was he supposed to be staying? Hotel?

And it would be really helpful if we could get a picture of Alex.

Thanks,
BettyLou

Hi BettyLou,

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of Alex on this computer. I'm at a friends place for the weekend. Meren and I took a much needed vacation for a couple of days to try and get away from or house. It feels so empty without Alex around.

His laptop is actually with the police right now. They are looking through it for any information about what may have happened to him. I'll try calling down there on Monday to find out if they've found any information.

As far as the dates go, Alex left for the US on Feb 24th. The next day, the 25th, is when we lost contact with him.

I'm sorry I haven't been updating my journal more often. As you can probably suspect, life is pretty hectic around here, what with trying to take care of Meren and working. I'll try and do an update on Monday also when I get back from our trip.

Thank you again for all your help,
Stephanie

lol. Agreed! And yes, Monday is St. Patrick's Day (March 17th).

So, I guess our original hypothesis was correct: our code pertains to color. But, if this is true, then why the first email about chess? Does the first Capablanca email apply to another puzzle?

I'm still clueless as to what the H in the code stands for. If it's a color as well, it would either be Harlequin or Heliotrope, I'm guessing. But then we still have d, a, and j. As these are lowercase, I don't think they'll apply to any specific color. Maybe d, a, and j are instructions/operations instead? I don't know, this is hard.

/me goes to find some sticks....

Off the wall theory which I can't prove because I suck at Photoshop: what if it's a set of instructions for Photoshop?

R+G-B H R*B-R d B/2+R a G-B-G j B-G

I know Photoshop has certain filter: additive, subtractive, multiply... H could be hue. Not sure what the "/", "a" and "j" would stand for.

Although it seems like a helluva lot of steps; most things that are visible in images can usually be discovered after the first filter.

What if it has something to do with Ignatius of Loyola, (which incidentally is in Spain)? The end of the riddle references St. Patrick's day, (although this year it's actually on the 15th), and Ignatius is also a Saint. Perhaps those watching are the Saints?

stupid pictures

(still not convinced those emails go with this ARG.....) but if they do, then what about applying Red Green or Blue filters? or something to the "corrupt" pictures from alex's flickr page?

*I am further discouraged by the dates:

PHOTOS taken on FEB 8th and 9th, 2008!
PHOTOS uploaded on FEB 25th, 2008!
PHOTOS listed as trip on FEB 26th, 2008!

Either that's some good psychic work on where you're going to be in the future, a poor mistake by PM, or Alex never went on this trip at all.....

Note the dates of other photos: 2004 and 2005...so I think we should totally disregard old photos and only concentrate on the recent ones taken in Georgia. Example is of cast on a girls arm, with a note about being able to ride a bike.....not relevant in my opinion.

I gave "Stephanie" a wide open way to get us information, by "finding" stuff on Alex's computer.....guess it wasn't that obvious..... starting to nod off here. I could probably spend all week catching up on FindtheLostRing..........

Personally I'm disregarding his emails until i get confirmation on who he is. I don't accept information from shady figures I can't background check in some way.
I've tried variants of the code on photoshop with no success as of yet.
Still trying.

Photoshop vs. GIMP

Anyone here use GIMP on a regular basis? The pic in which we found the username shows Alex using GIMP on his system.

I only bring this up because I've used both Photoshop and GIMP in the distant past, and although they perform similarly, there are some differences between the two, especially in naming of some of the menu items.

Just something to think about.

Facebook update

Did we find an account for Alex on Facebook?

If not, I think we should friend "Ya Era Hora" from Spain, whom I found this morning.

It means, literally, "it was about time" (if a statement) or "was it time?" (if a question).

We haven't found one yet. See if you can get a reply from the "Ya era hora" account.

The February 12th entry on Alex's site (http://www.alexloyola.com/2008/02/) is labeled, "Ya era hora." So, worth a shot.

Also, Coffeebean, if you're still doubting whether or not the Capablanca emails belong to this ARG, consider these three things:

1) Capablanca's emails are entitled, "To The Friends of Alex."
2) Everyone who received Capablanca's emails had previously emailed redLoyola's support staff. How else could someone have gotten all of our email addresses?
3) Capablanca's second email hinted heavily at the letters R, G, and B, which we've been dealing with in the code.

#3 actually makes me wonder if there's an insider amongst us... Time for a mole hunt! Smile

I haven't gotten squat, but I admit I haven't put much effort in here.

lol, well, you're right, no one else made mention of having received the emails. For the record, I got the emails, too. Smile

On a hunch, I sent Code Monkey an email asking if he knew anything about the code we've been struggling with. I'm hoping he'll be able to live up to his title.
