When I tried to update the wiki with the podcast pictures (thebruce was faster Smile ) I wanted to include some background info to the different pictures.
And in the podcast #1 there is one picture pointing out the island of Antikythera (where the plague of Demetros was found). Looking for some background information for this picture I found also the reference to the mechanism. But as thebruce has already finished the podcast pages of the wiki, I forgot about it.

So this could be a further connection from the mechanism to our Lost Ring.

Hi, I am new to ARGs and FTLR, so I have been hesitant to muddy the waters with my thoughts and discoveries. Following the revelation of a new package by sfzerosean, I think I need to throw my two cents in. On Eli Hunt's website, under the FAQ's, he mentions an important artifact that has been uncovered but not fully understood yet. So I googled artifacts that have been discovered in the last century and uncovered the Antikythera Mechanism. It is believed to be an orrery or astronomical clock. It is housed at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens but one of the core research groups is the University of Cardiff, UK. The mechanism consists of rings, gears and dials. On one of the front rings are the zodiac symbols and 360 marks. (degrees?)
There are also markings and inscriptions designation solar and lunar movements and maybe eclipses. I am not doing a very good job of describing this and don't know if this is part of our mystery, but maybe it will help. Check out more about the Antikythera mechanism at http://www.antikythera-mechanism.gr/project/general/the-project.htm

What made me post this is the reference to Sindhind. Googling it resulted in....Al-Khwārizmī's Zīj al-sindhind (Arabic: زيج "astronomical tables of Sind and Hind") is a work consisting of approximately 37 chapters on calendrical and ...

Checked out the site and found under contacts: "Professor Mike Edmunds, at the University of Cardiff". At www.mikeedmunds.com, you get a cryptic message: "Welcome. What you are looking for is probably not here"

I couldn't find anything else on the page.

Related, or weird coincidence?

definitely coincidence, this guy is actually researching the Antikythera device, I had a chance to see him speak earlier this year (way before FTLR) but had to do a driving lesson so couldn't, was quite annoyed about that.

This may not be of interest to anyone but, the layout of Beijing is in a series of rings. There are 6 concentric roads which circle the city, although they are numbered 2-7. There is no innermost ring (which would be the 1st ring). Interesting, but maybe just a coincidence.

Anyway, here's some info:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_Roads_of_Beijing

The packages just came in the mail, yes. You essentially had to be a known player of this type of game (ARG) or have written articles about them to get a package. There probably won't be any more packages sent out like the ones already received.

But there WILL be puzzles to solve, characters to interact with, languages to learn, worlds to save, and other stuff to do.

Hey,

I found the thelostring.com website by randomly clicking on a banner advertisement, and would like to help. I'm in Athens, Ohio, USA (Ohio University ftw!). Is there anything I can do? I've read the "story so far" thread, but that's all I know.

Thanks!

Hello Keric! Welcome.

Everything is on hold while we wait for:
a) the next "artifact" pickup in Shanghai, and
b) the "Omphoputer" to be updated. (Austin is not yet marked as RECOVERED)

I see there is now a "What can I do?" section on the Wiki - so keep an eye on that. By all accounts there's another five months of game ahead, so there will be stuff to do soon enough. Smile

Also, if you haven't yet, I'd recommend having a good listen to Eli Hunt's podcasts, and checking out the other in-game characters' blogs to fill in on the backstory...

Hello

Hello, I'm new to this, it's the first time I'm playing a game of this kind, but finding it all quite exciting. Smile

I somehow managed to look through all the posts in this topic last night, and about the green and red dots showing up on the map, I don't think you need to authenticate as one of the six. Coz I've only just opened the site (ten mins ago) and a green and a red one showed up without me ever typing anything.

So I suppose it's really just random.

I've taken screencaps of the red and green dots; can someone tell me how I should go about uploading pictures into the posts, like I've seen others do...? I'm a n00b, I know. Razz

Welcome Gerri!

Yes, some of the dots showed up before any typing happened. And refreshing will probably get you a slightly different assortment of dots. The total number and color available seems to be governed by our overall efforts - as someone finds/unlocks a new dot, we'll all see it.

Thanks for the welcome, aliendial Smile

Any help on posting pictures on the thread? Smile I'd like to share the two I have, to see if they might be any help. Smile

If you want to post here, there's a file upload box down below the message box when you are writing a post - find the file on your hard drive, upload and then post.
