I feel very hostile towards you now when I was trying to neutralize the situation earlier... Now I'm just getting pissed...

You didn't have to stay around and play the game, but you did.. something must have kept you from going away and playing something else... Give him a break....!!!!!!

*sigh* i've forgotten how absolutely Schizophrenic everyone seems to be on this forum. They work with you or apologize one moment, and start flamming you the next, all because you have a few opinions.

If i were to ever create a game, i would sincerely hope that you would criticize it. How the hell can anyone learn to better themselves without criticism? The PM should take the critcism that i've given him and learn. That way, he can not only better himself, but any future projects. I'm sorry if you can't see that.

Heh, so it was you doing this game? Fair enough, since I enjoyed it a lot (An addiction to time travel related stuff to blame for that...)
And Hawk, your comment is the best thing I've read all day Very Happy
Sorry to hear about your mum anyway Leyton, and I hope for the best for her.

Thanks, lunsford Wink

BTW-- for the title of this thread, should I just put '[IMPLODED]' in it, so people know that it's done? Or is it something else?

Ok... Firstly thanks for all the well wishes guys. I'm still waiting to hear about my mum but hey; it's probably going to take a while... Now. Let me try answering a few of the critisizms and such without being too rude considering how stressed I am right now.

I was half ready to quit and/or pull the curtain up on this game myself after she ranted at me. The beliefs that Bianca held about not telling Richard was so morally corrupted, it pissed me off. Knowledge is power, and wars are never won with fists (see: Iraq, Vietnam, ect). Not telling Richard about his fate is leaving him unprepared and ready for attack. After all that time that we got getting to know Richard and liking the guy, that was a real hard slap in the face.

Completely understood from the perspective of getting to know the character and that was the whole point. - I was hoping Richard would form really good friendships w/ the players in hopes of antagonising some kind of conflict of interest when the part about telling him came into play - And it worked perfectly except for the fact that honestly? I think you took your OOG morals and beliefs a little too deep into this game - Bianca obviously had her reasons for not telling Richard and how that played out all depended on what questions you chose to ask her... You personally just argued and argued w/ her and I guess @ some stage completely forgot she was a character in a game which more than likely had its paths set out

Redcti was asking the right questions and whether or not he believed the route being taken was the right one he came to understand (so it seemed) that Bianca and WR1 had their reasons.

But for what it's worth... Bianca was wrong and you were right all along - Richard IG should have been told and I'll elaborate in a second. But OOG he was never supposed to know.

dposse wrote:
Also, your story sucked. Time travel is so hard to believe in on the internet. This ARG was interesting in the early stages when it was just a conspiracy in a company and an unsolved murder.

That's one persons opinion and to be honest you're the only person who seemed to think the story sucked and that's fine, 100% fine. - But as has been stated; take a look down the list of ARG's and tell me one which is not about anything extraordinary or "possibly impossible" and could actually be taken into account as being realistic; remember they're "ARG"s Alternate Reality Games... Not of our reality. - Even "Conspiracy" ARGs are sometimes hard to believe and your examples of 'better' ARGs hold no weight; because as has already been said - Those were created with major million dollar backing.

I'm 26yrs old, I attend University - I'm in the middle of writing essay papers and have NO Cash to make awesome .com domains and the like - All that in mind, I think I did a pretty good job @ a story.

dposse wrote:
So, how was this whole thing supposed to end? What was supposed to happen after we found "Richie rich" and Richard's past blog? Oh, and your "characters" should have told you that we found out the answer. You sent that email from Stanford too late.

Ok firstly, I sent the email to Alice from Stanford bolding Richie Rich a good couple of hours before the solve was made lol... I was hoping she'd check her mail but around the same time she told Bianca she had to go...

As for what was "supposed" to happen. - I had a nice little puzzle made up where 97 Richard blogs about how Nate set them a task; find the answers to two riddles which was then going to be the username/password to a login site with a video from... Dun-dun-dun, Nathanel Peterson. - He was going to explain a few major things involving plot twists... For example? Stanford was in fact NOT to be trusted and he worked WITH Nate's dad. The only person who knew the truth @ this point was Dr. Laker... The Uni teacher who "commited suicide" at the beginning of the game.

Nate had in fact not inhereted his fathers nasty side and went back to 97 to try and help Richard (Hence Colonel Finch saying "If you've gone back again" etc.)

Nate was to tell you guys NOT To let Richard go back to 97 and find his younger self (although it seemed it had happened per 97 Richard's "dream") But it was going to be way too late. WR1 would have already found Stanford who in fact had not been kidnapped as it was all a ploy and there was then to be one final encounter where I would have had you guys using some complicated CGI stuff to 'disable' the particle mechanism device which was discussed a little earlier in the game.

---

Now as for Richard suddenly turning up in 2013 and finding a newspaper being completely weak. Anyone who played 48 Hours In purgatory would tell you we suddenly had a character we'd been interacting with (Jagt/Jet) communicating with us out of nowhere, from the future... And this game has a lot more backing than mine ever has...

The only way any of this could be deemed as weak and unbelievable [including the livejournal creation date 'fiasco'] Would more than likely be because you weren't enjoying the game and weren't as into it as you could have been, to begin with; And just wanted to watch it play out. - Suspending your belief/disbelief like that will ruin a game for you... - Hey, at least I didn't make a blogspot account for 97 Richard and used Livejournal which back then was the big hitter as far as online blogs go, I don't even think Blogspot was available in 1997...

Anything else I can think of to add to this I will later. Or if you guys want to ask anything else, feel free.

Oh... And as for this not being a multi-million dollar backed ARG being any kind of excuse for lack of creative blog entries, sites and videos? Yes it is - It's the perfect excuse. Because believe me; had I been backed by Time Warner or something, had a couple of grand to my name and the CGI experience behind me - You WOULD have felt differently about the game, dude.

- Oh and no offence but nothing you've said has actually taught me anything about bettering myself or this ARG; except not to invite you in on the next one to be honest mate lol

Well, I just have to say that you did a great job with this with the limits you had Leyton. It was fun all through the game (although Bianca was getting annoying, I'll admit that). And about the whole believability of time travel - ARGs aren't perfect. They can't automatically drop you in a perfect alternate reality – you have to use your mind and suspend disbelief. Who cares if it was run off of free sites? As long as it has a good story and you can suspend disbelief, you can "be there" if you choose to. Smile

I agree with...about everyone but dposse, I suppose. I wasn't real heavy (read: didn't get involved with at all) character interaction, but the puzzles were interesting, and I thought the story was pretty good. My English teacher once said that nothing in fiction is new, it's all rearranged, and you are a masterful arranger. It was fun, sir. Looking forward to anything else you come up with.

Well this is a shame to end early, I was really enjoying it! This is my second ARG ever, and both ended before I got a chance to finish! Years ago I played EA's Majestic for a short period of time just before they shut it down. I learned later there was a boxed version, but didn't even bother with that as I knew it would be lame. So this was sort of my rediscovery of ARGs, and I was very excited. Oh well, Leyton is putting what matters first and I enjoyed it while it lasted. Thanks to Leyton, and I hope your mum gets better.
