Looks like this is the movie:
Quarantine
http://imdb.com/title/tt1082868/
Remake of a Spanish movie called [REC].
Synopsis for US remake: Television reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman (Steve Harris) are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. They soon learn that a woman living in the building has been infected by something unknown. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, Internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. When the quarantine is finally lifted, the only evidence of what took place is the news crew's videotape

Lol the first time I watched that video, Cloverfield was the first thing that came to mind
Anyways, anyone know what the viral marketing/ARG is for yet? I'm keeping an eye on this
nope, not yet. a cloverfield sequel is unlikely at this point. too early.
heh...

Looks like we have a blog to check out and a new character.

This guy's name is Mike Davidson who says he's a retired cop. He has blog entries back to December 2007. I'm taking a look now and will post more info as I see it.

Doesn't have much info on his profile... And it does seem a bit strange b/c I don't recall being able to change the creation date on blogspot...
This is seeming more and more like someone or more than one person "involved" here thinks it's real... If this is the case this is being really well done.
I mean you've got those asshats leaving comments like "You can't act" - Only someone who wasn't acting; couldn't act... Therefore Eric Brody's acting is VERY realistic which makes it awesome!

So his blog is pretty standard, talking about how he's asking for people to send him questions about being a cop, then having a couple of anonymous people posting questions.
The blog starts getting interesting with the February 12th entry, where there is a comment left by Laura McCreedy. She posts:
Quote:
Hey Mike it's Laura McCreedy. I don't know if you remember me, I'm Officer James McCreedy's wife. I really could use your help. James is missing. I can't get a straight answer from the department. James said you were the best at finding people. Could I please have your #? – Laura McCreedy
Looking at the list of characters on the "Quarantine" IMDB listing, there is a character named 'Officer McCreedy'. There's our direct character tie-in to the film. This proves that we're dealing with an ARG for the movie.
On March 14th's post, there is a comment from Anonymous:

Mike, this is Laura, Jim's wife. I don't know if you heard from anyone but Jim is missing. I can't get a straight answer from the department and I'm very confused what I should do. I had your email and I found this blog. Jim said you were the best at finding people. I'm really hoping you can help. I just emailed you my phone #. Please call me asap.

And finally, his latest blog entry refers to the youtube video.
Mr. Davidson also has a Flickr site at:

Yes, you can absolutely back-date posts on Blogger. It's a very common tactic with ARGs to make it look like the blog has been around for awhile and the players have just stumbled across it.
And away we go! We have a person to contact directly now through Blogger. Let's get some comments going on the site and see if we can get direct responses.

Nah, I know you can backdate posts I was doing it myself for a while; What I mean is the actual blog was created last year... But as you say, was probably done to give the feel of him being around for ages.

Well that's your release date across the pond.
It says: 17 October 2008 (USA) on IMDB, so I figured that was the connection?

This is what I have just posted on Mike's last blog entry:

Hi Mike,
I came across Eric's Youtube entries and have been following them for a bit. It seems like this is something which accidentally fell into his hands when he was terminated from his job downtown, possibly at the police station.
This looks legit and could be related to McCreedy's disappearance.
I have access to many resources online that could assist you in your search for information if you would like it. Please let me know if you're interested.

If I get some type of response, we'll know we can interact with this. If not, it could be non-interactive and just there for movie promotion.

Oooh, the creation date of the blog. I see what you mean.
Yeah, they probably made the blog back then as a placeholder and then filled in entries at a later time. That tells us they've been planning to do this since at least December then. It could be pretty well planned out.

Here's an article with some more information on this film:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3if8066b9ec8fbe1682811a8219b50285f
It's a re-make of a movie that was released November 23rd in Spain. That was a fast re-make!
The quarantine reason is a deadly strain of rabies. Interesting.

Looks good, I'm in.
As far as somebody 'giving' Eric the video, I think that is a distinct possibility. I also think him being fired for vlogging is complete bs, I think its the same guy who gave him the video. Now that he no longer works for the dept., he is able to spread the video around and also investigate it, and the firing probably prompted his rebellious, 'I WILL upload it' attitude.
I found the youtube comments hilarious...Its Clovie 2... no, no its a remake of REC...no its called Quarantine...Its Zombies!... haha

@NightHawk - the fact that you were trolling for new games while single handedly PM-ing LGlabs (still can't get over how 1 person made each character so unique and real on the fly like that) just adds to your legendary status.
