We are guessing that whoever wrote this omphalos mistakenly used miles instead of stadion, and then corrected it but used 185 meters per stadion (instead of 190).
so that may confirm our 185m/sta. At least until a little error is introduced to keep us on our toes.

I guess it is tough to quickly get hold of the ground area (to estimate the diameter of a city) of the cities that are omphaloi (is that the correct plural?).

Range rings would be useful at the target point. I see you're working on that. Awesome! and a great tool, Rogi!

A couple of other major cities that are about 47487 stadia from Lunglei are Johannesburg, South Africa and Reykjavik, Iceland.

Hey guys! I'm a 'she', and I'm in Bathurst, which is about two/three hours from Sydney depending on your mode of transportation (two for car, three for train). I can't get there this week, but I may be able to organise something for Saturday/Sunday/Monday (if the trains run/I can convince someone to take me on a public holiday. I know, I can't drive. Inconvenient, much?). Can we wait that long, or is someone else closer to Sydney than me? Speak now!

Updated the omphalos calculator to let you use any value you like for the meters/stadia. It defaults to 189 and if you change it, both the "Distance (km)" field and the "calculate destination" button use the value you chose.

Already posted in the Deadrop thread, but thought I'd add it here too just in case - have someone doing the Sydney pick up in about 3 1/2 hours!

That's gonna be very handy. Now that we have a reasonably large set of these, I've been continuing to try and suss out just how the Omphaloputer works. For Stephenville -> Cardiff and Stephenville-> Austin, 189 meters looks best. For all of the more recent ones (Ribnitz-Damgarten -> Stockholm, Ribnitz-Damgarten -> Bruxelles, Dongying -> Shanghai, Lunglei -> Sydney) it looks like 184.9 or 185 meters is better.

The Sydney artifact has been RECOVERED, thanks to mr.judkins' friend in Sydney! His friend is currently working on getting the code - presumably joining websites and getting caught up on what-to-dos. Hopefully we'll have the new artifact soon!

Any word on Brussels?

I hope we get an update, soon regarding the 2nd artifact.

Ireland is one of the places it could turn-up and if Rowan's still there, she might be able to retrieve it. I'd hate to see another "Brussels incident".

Durban, Johannesberg and Pretoria are possible, but I just have this feeling...

Ah - don't write off South Africa so quickly. We (you and me both) know someone who is a big fan of that country. Let's keep the tension up!

I'm thinking at best we have a range option - based on past values, once you give a starting point and stadia count, it can also give a min/max distance to check for. For one, naming a city in a map system will give a specific point within the city, and a city is pretty big, so just calculating distance 'city to city' won't be 100% accurate on stadia size; secondly, the actual locations we're looking for could be in theory anywhere from that specific city point to outskirts or even possibly a small town just outside the city.

ie, one specific value for calculating a distance won't suffice; we'll need a margin of error.
