[SPEC] I still believe that the PMs want us to activate more people from all over the world (not only Belgium). I can not remember where I read, that we must cover each squaremeter of the entire earth (or something like that).

And there was this quote from McGonigal
Quote:

Last weekend, after one week, we had 1,000 players. That's not a lot. We want millions of players. So we're putting the trailers online, and we're hoping tens of thousands of people watch those and that it grows from there. By Beijing, we hope there will be millions. That has to happen.

It seems nobody carried on with my idea to post something in a belgium forum, right?

[EDIT to avoid a double post]
I posted a message on a Belgium forum. perhaps somebody gets interested:

Yeah, I think we're going to have to drum up some cross-language-cultural advertising and pull folks in.

The getting started guide is great, as well as the what's happening so far, but I think maybe we could develop a quick two three paragraph into to both ARGs and FTLR that could used as a standard template.

We need your Help!
[Explanation of ARG and FTLR]
[Links to game trailers/resources]

Then that would be something we could a proper translation of and start the grassroots posting and recruitment -- especially if some of the folks here are already members of those communities already, or need to join them.

It's just the kind of thing that would be easy to dump into blog entries and stuff too...

I have a webpage for my (bestselling) novel, which gets about 200-300 hits/day from all over the world, so I'm going to post something on the home page. My readers are going to know my hidden geek side Geek, but it's only temporary, and hopefully some of them will be into it.

Anyone who keeps a blog should consider posting something there as well...I know some of you have already.

Weezel - I'll have a go at writing something later today.

I've spent the week getting slowly better at trying to explain to people what the heck I've been up to with my spare time lately, and as someone who is also new to ARGs I still remember being bamboozled by the concept...

I sent an email pretty much along the lines of what you're asking for to our new friend in Sydney (who I expect we'll finally hear from today), but I think I ended up giving too much information and not enough clarification... so I'll work on it.

I think it's really important to explain things like the fact you need flash to view the omphaputer and that the "www" is necessary for viewing www.thelostring.com - people could easily get frustrated and put off...

Brussles

I recently reestablished contact with an old friend who, as it turns out, in the intervening years has become an stewardess and flies the NYC/Brussles route. I will try to find out whether she or someone she knows can make the Brussles pick up, but as it's been some time since we were in touch, it'll take some time for me to broach the topic, as it's kind of a big and strange favor to ask. That said, she is a magician and nomad, so maybe it'll be right up her alley.

If someone else intends to pick up the artifact, please PM me so that I'll leave it alone

Otherwise, I'll let you know what she says.

You may need to ask her for an even stranger favor, or forget it altogether. Some unknown party has already retrieved the artifact -- and whoever it is isn't telling us or Ariadne. So unless your friend would be willing to try pressing the personnel at Casa Manuel for details...

A question to all Unfictologists:

Is there a possibility to search for the location of the forum members? Or do you know a good place to post the question, if someone near Brussels is here. It should be a thread, that people read.

With more than 17.000 members and much more guests, I would think the chance of finding someone from Belgium is quite fair.

It's not too hard actually. You can sort the memberlist by any of several fields, including what people have marked as their location. Unfortunately, less than half of all members have indicated a location. Of those that have, eleven indicate they are from Belgium (one of those specifically from Brussel) and one more has Brussels as their location.

Note - As more members join, my first link above will no longer hit the memberlist in the right spot, but it should be good for a little while.

Forum member

I contacted two members of this forum, who are still active and living in Belgium.

I got one reply:

Quote:

Hi,

I've read the thread. I don't see myself going to Brussels (while I do live in Belgium, I have never been to our capital in my entire life) but I will try to help out in another way. I'll ask around, see if I can find someone either in Brussels or willing to go there and let you know the results.

Cheers and good luck!

Johnny

So wait and see...

Yes, I wrote that reply. But I'm sorry to say no one has yet replied to my own queries about this.

I'm a bit hesitant to go too public with this. Doing that might ruin everything for you, because I can easily imagine a rogue going to that restaurant, removing the clue and then vanish with it never to be heard from again.

Should something turn up still, I'll let you know immediately of course.

So where do we stand with this? I really think we're not going to get too much further until we have this chapter. All that's going on now in the forums is wild speculation about all of the clues, which isn't getting us any further towards finding the truth. Confused I don't know that we've made much progress at all in the past week, so I think we need to figure out a new way to either find players in Brussels (or bombard the PMs with messages that we're out of ideas for how to find it.)

I've facebooked a friend who works at the European Parliament in Brussels begging her, or anyone she knows, to go to Casa Manuel to look for this document.

I'm also going to search for any facebook groups for people in Brussels and messsage on the walls.

I'll let you know if anything turns up. But I'm concerned that the ompha-puter says the artifact has been recovered. Is this then all a wild-goose chase? The people in charge of the game must know the ompha-puter setting, but still seem to give the impression through Ariadne and Lucie, that it's still worth looking.

But I'm with Elizabeth that until we do find this chapter, we're stuck.

I agree with Elisabeth. Actually people are just posting Speculations and we do not progress that much (perhaps again a PM strategie to let more people get into this before things move again).

I tried several ways to contact someone in Brussels (Forum members, Belgian forum even a mail to someone on a Belgium penpal list) but without any success up to now Sad

But what me worries more. All omphalai (is this the correct plural form?) are pending, even though all available artifacts have been recovered (assuming that Brussel has been recovered as indicated on the Secret site).
I assumed that a new omphalos become active as soon an artifact has been recovered, but that was not the case with the Brussels artifact.

Taking your lead, Chid12, I just posted a request for help in a couple of MySpace groups based out of Belgium...
