Of course it could be possible that someone just took to documents and of course there is no explicit rule to email Aridane.
But IMHO there is a general rule for ARGs which is "share infromation". Taking the documents and telling nobody about it, is clearly breaking that rule.

Ariadne is actively encouraging people to send her what they find. It's prolly in the emails and here rather than her forums, and of course she is setting up a simplifed trail on her website that makes it clear she is collecting what people find. Further there is the implication (not really expressed) that the entire codex needs to be collected to help us all help the athletes do whatever the heck they're supposed to be doing. Which we can't do if people hoard bits of the story.
But if it is just a bit of game vandalism, the PMs have many options. And if it was intentional, then the PMs have something interesting to spring on us. Either way, the game goes on.

This is the first ARG that I've played, but I'd say that this genre of game is probably meant to have a large community of players who keep each other involved of developments, coz it's meant to pool people's intelligence and resources. I'd think that taking one of the clues and keeping it to yourself isn't just "breaking" unofficial rules; it'd be undermining the whole gameplay.

There really aren't any rules when it comes to ARGs.
There's stuff we like to believe is true, but when it comes down to it, this item was out in the wild, and someone took the artifact and registered it. Maybe the person who took it is playing the game in their own way, and they have their own plans for the information on that document.
Maybe they need a few days to get to a good scanner. Maybe they don't have a digital camera good enough to provide hi-res photos.
At any rate, it's also really likely that the information on the documents will turn up somehow, if that info is vital to the progression of the narrative.
(fwiw, I don't actively disagree with anyone here -- except on the whole 'args have rules' thing. I am just expressing my curiosity about this development.)
EDIT: xnbomb told me/reminded me of the .pdf thing, which makes my musings less ... strident, but there ya go. See, I sit in IRC all the damned time watching people play this game, and even this bit about the .pdfs escapes me!

Just in case people aren't reading Ariadne's forum, she's posted this:
Quote:
So far, no one knows what happened to the artifact hidden in Casa Manuel in Bruxelles.
The omphaputer says someone entered the recovery code at least once.
But who? And why haven't they shared the code with me, or any of our friends? Is the artifact even really gone?
I really, really want to see the next chapter. We can't just forget about this artifact! If someone took it, we need to know who. And if it's still there, we need to go get it!
I'm trying to read something into this (the sentence "If someone took it, we need to know who," maybe suggests the PM's really do know, but really there's no way from this to tell which of our guesses could be the right one.
I think the only way to progress will be to get someone out to Brussels. (Where do we stand with that?) If this is IG, there's going to be SOMETHING behind the etching...either the codex or a note that will lead us to whoever took it.

I've been following along since the start but haven't posted since by the time I see a new clue posted they are already solved and none of the pickups have been around me. But my suggestion on this missing artifact is, since there have been a few picked up and we can see the codes, is there a pattern that can be discerned and maybe we can figure out the code for the missing one? I haven't looked at the codes on the other ones yet and not sure if anyone came up with this idea yet.

Welcome Wildman! I suppose it's possible someone brute-forced a 16 digit alphanumeric password. But that would really suck the fun out of this if that's all it takes is to wait for a location and then start running passwords.
It does sound like the artifact may still be at the restaurant.

I wasn't necessarily thinking of a brute-force to get the password but if there was a discernable pattern that could be used if the artifact was in fact not still at the location. Though after posting, I went to the wiki and looked at the retrieved codes and I couldn't see any pattern in them. So, that shoots down my theory anyhow.

I haven't seen any new leads here or on the IG forums, so I figured I'd give Craigslist a shot. I'm not very optimistic, as it doesn't look like CL gets nearly as much traffic over there. http://brussels.en.craigslist.org/com/614575562.html
I didn't mention Casa Manuel in the posting so that I can do some basic screening of any interested party first, make sure they can get us the code quickly, etc. (All we need is the code off the paper, right? Not scans?)
I e-mailed Lucie as well to see if she could make it up to Brussels. It's only a three hour drive.
If anyone is inclined to call Casa Manuel directly, their number is +32 2 511.47.47. Very cheap if you use Skype. My roommate tells me that they're pretty English-friendly in Belgium, so the language barrier might not be a problem for English speakers. Perhaps I will try tomorrow if there are still no leads, but I'm a bit pooped for tonight.

I think someone asked Lucie the other day, and she said she couldn't get to Brussels (IIRC due to a lack of money).
Several people did try calling Casa Manuel, without getting much sense out of anyone. That's not to say that you shouldn't give it another go, but the last attempts didn't seem too successful.
Ah, yes. You can read about both of the above here

There's a thread on Lucie's forum where LaPingvino asked her if she could go to Belgium and she said no. I supplemented with a request to call the restaurant to ask if the artifact is still there [although I suspect our artifact hosts will refuse to read us the code over the phone] and I don't think she ever responded.

Welcome! Fortunately someone has already visited the location and retrieved the code, though not the original Codex pages. See this thread for details.
