So I got a badly typed question, Illidan got a story with some odd gibberish in it, and Leyton got an assignment that you would not think an operative would usually be assigned.
Yeah, I got nothin' for an explanation.
I replied saying that "weqgegf" isn't an english word, to my knowlede, and asked for a bit of a hint.
Hopefully I didn't do something bad.

Maybe there are several people behind this?

Could 4483828999 be a phone number?

Maybe those weird words in Illidan's reply are a vigenere cipher?
I'll go check...

That wouldn't quite explain the numbers at the end :/
Good luck with that, though. I'm not all that good at ciphers.

I used an online vigenere decoder, but it didn't work. At least, not with the 'SHA' for a key.

I'm pretty sure the story fragment is either an extract from a Harry Potter book, or a fan fiction, based on the references.
I think that 'practicing a sdfrr or two' would be 'practicing a spell or two'. Unfortunately, there is no ROT that would change 'sdfrr' into 'spell'. I worked out that the Vigenere key (or key component) needed would be 'aobgg' which doesn't help either. I can't see a structure to any of this yet.

Tried googling / metacrawling "It was mid-afternoon, the sun out and hot,"
Nothing.
I also noticed that the name of the main character in the story, "sdfvvv sdfwr" , and what we can only assume is the word "Spell," "sdfrr," all start with the letters SDF.
I also notice that twice they substitute "Wand" with 5676, which can't be a direct substitutional cipher, as there are no repeated letters in "Wand," and thus the 6 shouldn't be repeated.
Plust they forgot to substitute it here: "A thick book lay before him on the ground, his ebony wand poking
and jabbing at it as he continued practicing a sdfrr or two"

Probably not an HP book-- I'm not a Potterhead, but I do know that none of the characters wear a black and yellow tie o_O It'd be funny if it were a fanfiction though...prolly the first ARG to have a fanfiction trailhead xD

My guess: Sign up sign up in (WTF?)
Have no clue what that last part says. Tell her to go and sober up a bit before replying.

Idea Perhaps their emails are getting *fingerquotes*garbled*unquote* on the way? Like they're transmissions from a satellite or something?
EDIT--
noticed something in the source:
A script called "http://www.987mb.com/fixstats.php". Going to this page gives us:
Quote:
var ipaddress = '68.40.57.146'; var browser = 'MSIE 6.0'; var operatingsystem = 'Windows XP SP2'; var countrylanguage = 'en-us'; var referer = escape(document.referrer); var screenresolution = screen.width+'x'+screen.height; var colordepth = screen.colorDepth; var url = location.href; init_counter(); function init_counter() { var clickscript = new Image(); clickscript.src = 'http://www.countall.com/count2.php?hit=1&u=123897&title=http://everythingisfine.987mb.com&ipaddress='+ ipaddress +'&browser='+ browser +'&operatingsystem='+ operatingsystem +'&countrylanguage='+ countrylanguage +'&screenresolution='+ screenresolution +'&colordepth='+ colordepth +'&referer='+ referer +'&url='+ url; startclicklog(); } function startclicklog() { if (typeof document.onmousedown == 'function') { currentFunc = document.onmousedown; document.onmousedown = function(e) { catchactivity(e); return currentFunc(e); } } else { document.onmousedown = catchactivity; } } function findlink(el) { var tagName = 'A'; var parent = el.parentNode; if (el.tagName != 'IMG') var df = el.href; if (!df&&parent) { if (parent.tagName==tagName) return parent.href; else return findlink(parent); } else return df; } function catchactivity(e) { try { if (e == undefined) e = window.event; if (e.srcElement) href = findlink(e.srcElement); else href = findlink(e.target); if (href) var clickscript = new Image(); clickscript.src = 'http://www.countall.com/count2.php?hit=0&u=123897&title=http://everythingisfine.987mb.com&ipaddress='+ ipaddress +'&url='+ url +'&href='+ href; var href = ''; } catch(e) { } return true; } document.write(''); document.write('');
Don't know if this is a normal script from the host site or what...

That's OOG. Something 987mb puts on every page, to my knowledge.
As far as garbledness goes... Does that mean I win, considering how my message is the least garbled?
