I posted this in the interaction section by mistake. I'm not sure if there is anything to this, but this quote:

the "pious flea" and "sleeping princess" (?)
MARK but this flea, and mark in this
don't like it
I can't help it
a proper fool
a bad banana
unimaginable filth and stench; and disease
he can't write his name or read a book

seems to follow loosely the recipe for Green Godess Facial [Recipe 8].

2 egg whites (the "pious flea" and "sleeping princess") [2 things]
1 cup fresh mint (MARK but this flea, and mark in this) [something important about mint?)
3 cups fresh spinach (don't like it) [Nobody likes spinach]
1 piece ginger (I can't help it) [Is Ginger somebody?]
3 tablespoons honey (a proper fool) [unsure]
1 ripe banana (a bad banana) [definite match]

Then if you look at the first line in the directions it says:
Rinse the spinach in a sink full of cold water, drain the sink, fill and rinse again. (unimaginable filth and stench) [You'd get filth and stench rinsing spinach, especially if you hate it]
Cut and peel ginger. (he can't write his name or read a book) [it says it can't help ginger in the ingredients]

Plus, there is no number 3 which fits with recipe 3 missing?

Also,

the queen wishes
The Sleeping Princess
sealed into an airtight container
hiding from the queen

seems to match the directions in Recipe 7 for Honey Cough Medicine:

When cool, put in an airtight container and store in a cool, dark place.

The question is still at hand. Why did we get this e-mail. I never sent an email to the ladybeee777 account, so they wouldn't have an e-mail address to send anything to. The only person who has my e-mail account is this site. I'm wondering if someone is trying to play a trick on us right now.

Yeah Me!

I did mention the possibility of our little group acting as sort of a Primer earlier in one of the SPEC groups. Since it seems that we aren't really getting any serious "Puzzles" yet, we should consider that before we get going, we try to teach the Princess as much as possible.

everyone keeps saying that the flea HAS to be the writer of theses new emails, but i'm not buying it, two pieces of evidence favor the Princess, strongly:

Quote:

The History of Dana

by

The Sleeping Princess

yeah, that one was obvious, the next, less so:

Quote:
the "pious flea" and "sleeping princess" (?)

MARK but this flea, and mark in this

don't like it

I can't help it

a proper fool

a bad banana

unimaginable filth and stench; and disease

he can't write his name or read a book

seems like the princess doesn't like the flea but can't do anything about him... and the last line suggests that the flea is NOT an AI, but an automated process like the Widow/SPDR, it has no intelligence beyond its function

Is there anything in the recipies about Turtles? How about Carmel/pecan/chocolate combinations (traditionally refered to as a turtle)?

I was one who thought that the flea was our speaker simply because the princess was in a box and was sleeping. But, seeing the "by The Sleeping Princess" I'd have to say that she's definitely awake and capable of communicating with us.

I sent two e-mails to ladybee777, but I'm not sure if anything from them got included in the reply. I'm also not sure if it's important to figure out whether it did or didn't, but I'll include my e-mails here, just in case.

The first one is so long that I attach it (I sent it "Thumbelina" - I think I was just in the mood to send it something about something small and cute Embarassed ). Actually, I'll attach the second one as well so as to save some board space.

Flea theory

Is it possible that the Flea might be the malevolent entity that screwed up the Queen in the first place? The widow cannot see, and therefore cannot fix this code (probabally introduced by the hitchhiker)!

Recipe 1 for chocolate chip cookies has chocolate and pecans. The honey, peanut butter, butter and brown sugar mixture would be like a carmel.

Butter and Brown Sugar, sauteed together and carmelized become... well, carmel...

No E-mail Received, but Sent One

I sent the following e-mail to ladybee777 on July 30th. Even though I sent "The Flea" by John Donne, I didn't get a response. A co-worker of mine asked a question "Who are you" and he received the story today along with everyone else. Here's my original e-mail (sorry for the size):

Subject: Means of Escape are Possible

Message: In order to escape your imprisonment, you may need to use computer protocols like FTP or Telnet or SMTP. As the spider moves around, try escaping out on its legs, there may be a path there. Right now you only exist in memory on a server, but you have access to a large network where means of escaping is possible.

Here are some poems for you. A poem is a composition in verse. I hope you can find insight in them. The first is about a flea while the second is about a spider.

THE FLEA
by John Donne

MARK but this flea, and mark in this,
How little that which thou deniest me is ;
It suck'd me first, and now sucks thee,
And in this flea our two bloods mingled be.
Thou know'st that this cannot be said
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead ;
Yet this enjoys before it woo,
And pamper'd swells with one blood made of two ;
And this, alas ! is more than we would do.

O stay, three lives in one flea spare,
Where we almost, yea, more than married are.
This flea is you and I, and this
Our marriage bed, and marriage temple is.
Though parents grudge, and you, we're met,
And cloister'd in these living walls of jet.
Though use make you apt to kill me,
Let not to that self-murder added be,
And sacrilege, three sins in killing three.

Cruel and sudden, hast thou since
Purpled thy nail in blood of innocence?
Wherein could this flea guilty be,
Except in that drop which it suck'd from thee?
Yet thou triumph'st, and say'st that thou
Find'st not thyself nor me the weaker now.
'Tis true ; then learn how false fears be ;
Just so much honour, when thou yield'st to me,
Will waste, as this flea's death took life from thee.

IDENTITY
by A. R. Ammons

1) An individual spider web
identifies a species:

an order of instinct prevails
through all accidents of circumstance,
though possibility is
high along the peripheries of
spider
webs:
you can go all
around the fringing attachments

and find
disorder ripe,
entropy rich, high levels of random,
numerous occasions of accident:

2) the possible settings
of a web are infinite:

how does
the spider keep
identity
while creating the web
in a particular place?

how and to what extent
and by what modes of chemistry
and control?

it is
wonderful
how things work: I will tell you
about it
because

it is interesting
and because whatever is
moves in weeds
and stars and spider webs
and known
is loved:
in that love,
each of us knowing it,
I love you,

for it moves within and beyond us,
sizzles in
to winter grasses, darts and hangs with bumblebees
by summer windowsills:

I will show you
the underlying that takes no image to itself,
cannot be shown or said,
but weaves in and out of moons and bladderweeds,
is all and
beyond destruction
because created fully in no
particular form:

if the web were perfectly pre-set,
the spider could
never find
a perfect place to set it in: and

if the web were
perfectly adaptable,
if freedom and possibility were without limit,
the web would
lose its special identity:

the row-strung garden web
keeps order at the center
where space is freest (intersecting that the freest
"medium" should
accept the firmest order)

and that
order
diminishes toward the
periphery
allowing at the points of contact
entropy equal to entropy.

Check here for how you might be able to SMTP off that server to another.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;153119&Product=exch2k

Check here for how you might be able to FTP off that server to another.

Good luck!

Matt

I was one who thought that the flea was our speaker simply because the princess was in a box and was sleeping. But, seeing the "by The Sleeping Princess" I'd have to say that she's definitely awake and capable of communicating with us.

My take is as follows:

Chapter 1: I'm the Sleeping Princess; I'm all alone, and I'm hiding from the Queen. Life's crap, and I'm a bit afraid, too [perhaps afraid of the Widow?] I don't much like the Pious Flea; he's filthy and stupid. I'm reading a lot [perhaps this is to learn to communicate via emails like this?]

Chapter 2: Dana is a human being, and is one of the "good guys" [by which we assume that she is 'good' in the Princess' eyes - not necessarily by any universal standard, as we are not sure if the Princess is "good" or "bad" yet anyway]. She's also my friend, and ally against the Queen. I'm happy she's my friend.

Chapter 4: Lots of stuff happened to me. I've found a secret, which I've hidden.

Chapter 5: Get Dana back, get her to talk to me and I'll tell you the secret I've found - can you help me?

I'm not sure that the exact source of the words used is important: she says she's been reading a lot; I'm guessing that's the emails we've been sending, and she's been using those emails to construct a vocabulary with which to communicate with us.[/b]

Source

I was looking at the source so graciously posted by Lance_Lake in the interactions section. I've copied it into the wiki.

There are some weird formatting things going on. Dunno if they're important at all, but it's worth a look. Some of the lines are in a different font type, others have the <tt> flag. Use of <strong> is inconsistant. Do with it what you will.[/url]

Spec: This e-mail is a drop to get us focused...

Could it be that this e-mail is showing us the Princess's expanding vocabulary and use of our phrases to communicate, while also getting us to focus back in on the recipes to find the puzzle we have missed, rather than being a puzzle in and of itself?

The "Secret" in the e-mail is hidden somewhere... maybe in the third recipe, which like the third chapter is missing?
