so is it decided we're using Elizabeth's text to translate? I can translate it into Chinese ASAP if it's needed. (:

Elizabeth raises a very good point. Perhaps this is why the game seems to have slowed down over the last few days - no new documents, e-mails or artifacts really. The more info there is, the less likely people are going to be to take the challenge on. I think there's just about an acceptable level of info you'd have to pick up were you to join the game now. But in a couple of weeks... perhaps too much.

Okay, I just got an idea. I think it'd be nice to have some sort of overall story-so-far told in the way a story would be told (ooh, a Mythopoeia task!) that would really draw people in without all the more techie stuff.

The story would start from the beginning, the appearence of the agons, organizing the information in such a way that it reads like an actual mystery...Potential players will hopefully watch a couple of the videos first, since that would draw them in to the mystery initially and are easy to absorb, but then once hitting on the wiki this story would be the first thing they'd read. We have our protagonist, Ariadne, her 5 sidekicks, the mysterious Eli Hunt, a potential enemy, a strange website and notes found in an old book, and a mystery that, unless solved, could mean the end of the world...

If you guys agree this would be a good idea, maybe we can post this in the Mytho thread, to see if there are any takers. If no one else wants to take it on, since I'm a novelist I'll try to do it myself as soon as I have time.

There is already a Story So Far thread here in uF started by Red Hatty a couple of weeks ago.

I know, but I'm thinking of something that reads more like a story, without all the links and side information. Really only a few paragraphs , just telling what we know. Once upon a time, a woman woke up blindfolded in a labyrinth, and realized she had no idea who she was...through the finding of other agons and the secret site and chapters of the codex (with embedded links that don't read like links.) The current thread is great, as an informational tool, but it doesn't serve as well to draw new players into the story, as we know it. I think it'd be great to have something that would give the story a vaguely sinister (but fun) feel.

totally agree... the 'nutshell' on the front page of the wiki only tells so much. the timeline is far too point-formy and long for anyone to read. one thing I did with a previous arg was to take out blocks of timeline updates into a separate detail page, and write summaries of that 'chapter'. It's something I've been meaning to get to with the timeline (chapter blocks are already on the page), but haven't got to.

If someone writes up the story so far in chapters/blocks, then it can be integrated into the timeline to read in such a novelized way.

Okay, I just posted something in the Mytho forum, because I saw it accomplishes two of their "missions" in a way, to hide the secrets "in plain sight" and help people understand the big story...

Here is a link to a "story so far". It is written in a very nice style, full of suspense. Unfortunately it is in German. I will try to translate the first part later. but I am sure I am not able to really "transfer" the style of story telling.

But perhaps it will give you the impression of something that at least I like Smile

Yup I agree (again). While I started this idea, if Mythoites wanna take up the reins on this and make it happen as part of their tasks, go right ahead.. otherwise we can continue our discussion here.

As someone who just jumped in a few days ago, I just wanted to say that I think this would be great Smile

I'd suggest a nice narrative explaining everything that's happened, and also a 1-2 paragraph nutshell for people who are JUST getting into it...

http://redct.info/lostring/ <- that any good?

We could have a bunch of translations like that.

on the wiki timeline I've remove the details of the first three chapters, where summaries (including internal/external links) can be written... If anyone's up for the task, that should end up a good chronological/novelized story-so-far read

Question: should I put any work into that little info page that I put up (like get translations) or should I forget about it?

I dunno. I thought it was a good idea, but it seems to have gotten a lukewarm response. I don't want people to waste effort translating if no else is going to use the translations for anything.
