[META][INFO] List of People, Locations...

Based on a request in this thread: http://forums.findthelostring.com/message/2277

Quote:
Another idea that would help us very quickly locate who has what strength would be to create a spreadsheet in Google Docs with shared editing permissions or whatever. We could have one column each for username, location (like specific city), country, and primary ancient strength. Then we could easily use the Sort feature on the appropriate column to group together all the people from a particular country or primary ancient strength...something that is not easy to do with the map data.

I would suggest that we not "use the map or use a spreadsheet"...I suggest we do both, because they are both useful in different ways, and if each person inputs their own data, it is not hard to maintain both.

I didn't check the spreadsheet before I filled out the form, so I wasn't aware that there were already some people listed (including myself). I'm now on there twice Embarassed

will I think this may serve as a better resource than the wiki - so let's try to mirror those already added to the wiki list to the document.
And I think perhaps being able to edit inline may be fairly beneficial; I don't think there's a reason really to restrict entry to a one time form submission. But that IMO.
Anyone think the wiki list should remain? I hate duplicating data, and a google doc is less "OOG" than the player resource wiki (and arguably more accessible)...

FWIW, I like the wiki list as it neatly keeps the info together in the same place as loads of other stuff. So if we're planning ahead for keeping a history of the game, I think the wiki list should remain.

However, for ease of use during the game to find particular people, the Google list seems the way to go.

Yeah. You can now edit using this link: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=p2YPJRB0PgIIBS8kNG_vfOg

But if you just want to put your entry in, please keep using the form. Plus, check if you already haven't been entered. Thanks!

In that case, people will need to make sure they're sync'd fairly often. Some may only add to one place and not the other...

Redct, another thing that I think needs clarifying is the US states. Should people use the full name, or the 2 letter abbreviation? At the moment there's both, which might muck up searching and sorting.

I've set the Google thing to email me a digest of changes, so hopefully I can try to help keep the wiki up to date with changes (and vice versa).

It might be worth putting the full name of the States, just for those of us outside of the USA who can't remember them all! You have an awful lot of states beginning with M, for example, and I can never remember the abbreviations for them!

I used the link, but still couldn't edit it to remove my duplicate entry.

The Wiki list has the advantage (or disadvantage, depending upon your viewpoint) of being more readily editable by anyone -- I already see people voicing problems with not being able to change or delete their prior entries.

But if you are inclined to delete the Wiki list, I suggest keeping in its place at least a link to the Google document.

yea for now the link hs already been added at the top. If after a while we find that the two pages are getting fairly disconnected, I'd suggest reworking the idea to make a single source.

of course, again, there's no guarantee that ether of these, let alone one joined one, woul become the overall resource for connecting people Razz considering how big the world is and how many communities are playing. I think only resource that would encourage everyone to unite in one place would be a website the likes of thelostring.com itself Razz
so we'll just have to make the best of what we've got for now. Who knows where things'll go in the next couple of months Cool

Could not Kai make up something like a list, document, map... on findthelost.com.

Perhaps we should contact Ariadne suggesting this idea.

Can someone edit it so there are correct spellings of Strengths (*cough*Sofia/Sophia*cough*) so that all of the groups are together? And someone needs to check out the Strengths of those who've just put a ? in that column.

I couldn't edit my entry (someone put me in there, but the info is incomplete). Should I make another one? How can I edit the spreadsheet?
