[ARTIFACT] Vancouver, Canada The BOISE dot updated:
Code:
Omphalos identified.
Navigate 4473 Hermes 25 degrees.
Using Rogi's handy-dandy calculator, this produces:
BOISE/VANCOUVER
Code:
Segal
Vault Level
#125
30 15 28
Ceiling, in an envelope
EDIT: This apparently refers to the bike lockers in the vault level of the building of the Segal Graduate School of Business at Simon Fraser University: http://www.sfu.ca/operations/bike.html
That's a locker number and combination.

I have a friend in Vancouver, not sure where exactly he's living, but I passed word to him, so I'll see if he's able to get there...

I FOUND IT!
It's chapter 7.
It's in esperanto.
I have cool pictures which I'll post.
The second we opened the locker, there was a rumble of thunder and it started hailing. It was terrifying.
ANYWAYS!

congrats! Yay! Way to go and thanks!
My Esperanto lessons are going so well! I think the first sentence tells you to begin in the center of the labyrinth. I guess this one is instructions for the runner.

Here is my translation, which I posted on the Wiki. I saw that Nicolas (an unregistered user on the Wiki) had posted one but it needed a lot of work, so I took his translation and referred back to the original Esperanto and fixed it.
Quote:
While running in the labyrinth
You will begin at the center of the labyrinth, and will navigate your way outwards.
You will be blindfolded during the length of the event.
You will keep your arms folded across your chest at all times.
You will navigate by sound. The wall will hum in order to guide you.
You will run through the labyrinth by yourself.
Your time will be measured. Finish the labyrinth as quickly as possible.
Skills
To navigate the labyrinth blindfolded is very disorienting, but an exciting experience.
To train to become a labyrinth runner means to develop these skills:
Becoming Spatially Oriented
Listening
Memory
Courage
Maintaining Speed
Speediness
Speed is relative inside the labyrinth. The majority of the labyrinth runners do not in fact run instead they walk as quickly as possible.
The majority of runners will never actually run an entire labyrinth to the end, even after years of training. It is an unobtainable achievement to which each runner aspires, but only the best succeed.
Disqualifiers
Runners are disqualified on account of following actions:
Removing the blindfold
Hitting the wall until the earth
Returning to the center by mistake
Turning over the direction and becoming moved after until the center, beyond the end of the wall, if the wall is made to move further according to the path.
In all of these cases, the Sophros[u]ne [Greek letters] are responsible for the identification and announcement of disqualifiers.
Proceeding Strategies
Control your fear! Fear is the biggest obstacle to speed in the labyrinth.
Remember the design of the labyrinth so that you can see it in your mind when you are blindfolded! Find or create labyrinth floor plans. Practice walking and running on it without a blindfolded. This develops muscle memory of the design.
The thumos [Greek Letters] is responsible for training and development of running talent. They often are themselves superior runners.
Proof of Reprocurement: R8KP/HJD2/BN2M/ENV3/7JAA
I was able to translate just about everything using Lernu.net's dictionary and his translation, but the 4th disqualifier boggled me! I only have a guess as to what it could mean.
This is the Esperanto that gave me trouble:
Quote:
Renversi direkton kaj moviĝi malantaŭen ĝis la centro, preter la fino de la muro, se la muro estas moviginta plu laŭ la vojo.
I can't make heads or tails of it!
~Hikaro
EDIT: Missed a section of the Esperanto in the quote

Well done on the pick up, Rob, and thanks for the photos - it's great to get a sense of where the artifacts where found...
For those of us only playing online, they really hammer home that we're talking about real physical objects in real places too!
Hmmm... and I also see the Western Maryland Railway Company strikes again...

Did the WMRC (I spelled that wrong three different times. Acronyms: not for the easily frustrated or the touch typer) show up during the other pickups? Maybe we should contact the finders and see.

I know the Syndey artifact was rolled up like a scroll with a ribbon round it - certainly there's been no mention of envelopes before, but it's definitely worth double checking!

I really enjoy reading the accounts (and seeing photos) of the omphalos pickups. It really helps build the atmosphere of a global event. Plus it lessens the disappointment of not being able to be the first to get to a pickup point.

mr.judkins, please post the details of the Sydney pick up in the Sydney thread; I'm not the only person who has been waiting to read about it.

Sorry folks, I haven't been meaning to torment you - I simply wanted to leave it up to the lovely lady who did the pick up to tell her own story. At the time she seemed really keen, but I think initially got put off by having troubles with the in-game websites (registering on the forums and whatnot). Then it was Easter, and I didn't see her online for days.
I'll drop her another email today, see how she's doing and whether she's still keen to get involved.
In the meantime, I'll post my side of the story in my lunchbreak. You see, the person who did the pickup is the friend of a friend (who I'd never met), and had never heard of anything like this before...
