Hey thebruce - I was going to work on them last night (it's one of my secondary missions Wink), but it turned into an evening of Mah Jong with my wife and brother instead. I'm doing my best to balance this game with physical human interaction...

Unless someone gets there first, I'll work on at least one of them today for starters... Smile

Okay... I've added a first draft of Chapter 1 on the Timeline, and am quickly picking up the various wiki editing codes.

If people are happy with this one, I'm happy to keep going on the following chapters...

Additionally, out of fear of messing up the RSS Feed for the timeline, I haven't added this in at the top of the page - but I'd suggest that this should be separated out from the main story, before Chapter 1:

Quote:
PROLOGUE

Packages containing memorabilia from the 1920 Summer Olympics are delivered to a number of people around the world. Contained inside are postcards, a poster and a ball of yarn. Written on the backs of the postcards are the following messages:

March 3, 2008
Find her…

March 4, 2008??
Find the others…

March 5, 2008??
Find him…

March 11, 2008??
Find the secret…

August 24, 2008
Save the world.

Inside the ball of yarn is a piece of paper that includes a reference to Findthelostring.com. All the website contains at this point, however, is a message explaining that the site is being worked on, and should be up first thing Monday morning...

I'm off to bed now, but I've attached the wiki code for the above - in case this is hunky dory and someone would like to add it...

Cheers! Very Happy

thanks mr.jud, no worries on the rss feed - as long as you don't use a span tag with a class, anything should be fine =)

Hey everyone... I am new to this whole thing (arg and the ring)

I found out about it by a Google banner ad... I found it took me probably 2 or 3 solid hours of looking into this before i got an idea of what was going on... and that i can contribute... It seemed everyone else knew very much what was going on and it was intimidating..

I do think the wiki needs a bit of work for someone who has never heard of ARGs and a VERY quick summary so people can catch up...

I dont really know the rules about posting on wikis or anything else... but i'd like to help out in any way that i can... (I am a web designer/developer)

Re: Wiki

Did you have a chance to read the Wiki's BEGINNERS GUIDE link on the Main page? If so, what was missing, and how can we improve it? If not, is there a way we can make the link more prominent so that newcomers can spot it more easily?

I did read the beginners guide Shad0... and it was helpful to get started...

but there is so much information everywhere that it was hard to get 'up to speed' ... I found the summaries on the timeline was the best place and then i could just click on and read more of what i wanted...

I think something that maybe acknowledges that there is a lot of info and that its ok.. start at step 1 here.. step 2 here.. like in the guide.. but MUCH simpler. This might help people coming to the site who have never heard of this kinda thing .. quickly grasp the concept and stick around...

Maybe i could give it a go and post here?

Or maybe put some text on the main page explaining the basic elements of what the heck is going on...we're probably getting people who haven't seen wikis before or used some of the tools we turn to so readily...

edit - great idea geekdream, esp. coming from someone new who just experienced it - you have a better perspective than some of us who have been hanging around here a little too long. Smile

Yes, please do! The front page, I admit, is pretty cluttered with information. But I don't think a lot of people already playing the game actually use the front page, so it could either be reduced, or the clutter lowered to the bottom so a more friendly introduction could be put at the top.

I tried to make the sidebar a little more friendly... too much text is too much text. So the front page is next Razz
