[RING] Eli Podcast: The Labyrinth

New podcast from Eli: http://www.thelostgames.com/4/podcast.do

It's about the difference between a maze and a labyrinth... who knew?

Interesting! I found this site, also interesting, by searching on "Floor of the Tholos." Maybe not relevant at all, but it shows how the pattern on the floor of the labyrinth Eli showed corresponded with planets and constellations:

More detail on the floor is here:

Pretty nice, he teaches us how to create a labyrinth: with a ball of string.

It is really useful, indeed.

It will be! When we get our friends together to practice labyrinth running, it will be a lot easier if we remember to bring the string!

Re: podcasts

I must say that I think it is extremely mean of Mr. Hunt to post all of his podcasts a few minutes apart on February 27, 2008, and then release them to the public piecemeal like this.

Its all part of spacing the ARG out so it takes longer

[meta] the quizzes are a way for PM's to measure player participation. The questions might point us towards the important information, but they are also there to provide a way to "play" for people who don't join forums or run around in parks with string and blindfolds.[/meta]

I would just like to point out that the information that Eli gives us and that is written on the picture about the Temple (tholos) at Epidaurus is not completely correct.

There is no indication of the a labyrinth at that site, and certainly nothing I've found indicates that the sick crawled through it. The foundation was made up of concentric rings (6 of them to be exact --ooh), but not a labyrinth. And finally, the diameter of the temple was 21.8 meters not 32.6 meters.

This site about Epidaurus does mention a labyrinth which sick people (actually the mentally ill) would crawl through in the dark. It also mentions sick people sleeping in a particular spot to receive visions of the healing god.
Presumably Eli is getting his information from unconventional sources.

Healing Through Labyrinths

I've been struck by Eli Hunt's reference to the use of labyrinths for its healing services; if you do a Google of "labyrinths, healing", you'll see an abundant array of actual labyrinths (or its metaphorical use) designed for people to navigate/meditate for spiritual and psychological healing purposes.

Which made me wonder: As our 6 begin training in labyrinths, will they recover more of their memories?

If that's the case, all the more reason to get these trainings started--but all the more reason to be wary of what Theo might do, who wants to make sure they don't remember anything

This site indeed confirms the labyrinth with snakes that lick the sick to heal: http://www.hellotia.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=351&Itemid=73

"In the labyrinth of the Tholos, consisting of the three inner corridors, the brown yellowish snakes of Asclepius, the so-called "paries" were kept. These snakes were used for healing purposes, licking the wounds of the sick and, according to Pausanias, they belonged to the non dangerous species. They were sent, not only all over Greece to other Sanctuaries of Asclepius, but also to Rome for the same purpose. The species of the "paries" snakes appeared only in Epidaurus. "
