Apparently that banner leads to somewhere: www.exposethegrid.com

Which in turn leads to www.projectrestoration.com

But... I'm a little confused as to whether or not this is just someone trying to get referral points for them and their 'clan' as they make a point @ the bottom of the E.T.G website:

Quote:
By my invitation, you can join the special forces there. When applying for citizen status, put my name (xanadu) as the referral code. We encourage you to break confidentiality protocols and share this site with other people, but just make sure that they use your citizen ID when they sign up.

Although the message on projectrestoration is quite cool.

Although they like using the "TINAG" message quite a bit >.<

Edit: Yeah it definitely seems to be one of those "Live/Trade etc" kind of V.R games.

Final Destination as far as I can see is http://www.transcendentnation.com/

Quote:
Transcendent Nation™ is the social networking hub for the Project Restoration™ ultimate-reality game to "save the world".

I've applied either way lol.

And I'm assuming it wasn't a "Hack" - it was a quickfire non-paid advertisement if anything.

Yeah.... no. There was no hack to ARGNet. There was no well-timed AdSense ad (the SXSW banner on our site is separate from the AdSense code).

Great trailhead, though. Rolling Eyes

Wow...practically every "user" to digg and every "user" to comment on that article (other than Jonathan) registered between March 28th and April 2nd, 2008.

Doesn't digg have rules against artificially pumping up article ratings like that? I mean, I know there's some latitude since it was April Fool's Day, but...that's a lot of fake registrations! Taking sockpuppetry to a new level.

Some very nice bits of disinformation here.

First, umberhulk8, that's a good one—taking credit for the "launch" and making all this look like a mere game. I'm sure that your controllers are most pleased with you.

To set the record straight, eXposetheGRID has nothing to do with Conspiracy Asylum and I'm sorry to say that the GRID is very real. Sometimes truth is stranger than chaotic fiction.

Just remember, things are not what they seem.
