Just so you know, films have working titles way before locations are scouted. This would have meant that they had not thought of anything with Clover in it until some scout came back and said, 'hey theres a bridge in Central Park that has another name for Clover in it. Lets call the film Cloverfield.' They had already named it this before scouting any locations..

Good point... UNLESS, the script calls for a specific location. My theory states that the writer had this location in mind to end the film, under a bridge in central park, which is aptly decorated with Clover designs...

Writers do their homework too you know! Wink

I'm sorry, I don't buy that. That's the dumbest reason to name your film. I've heard that numerous times and I've heard from numerous people that Drew Goddard personally said in an interview, that information was false, there was a "distinct" meaning behind it. At one point I even heard from someone who saw an early screening for it was because the monster had "cloverleaf" like feet so NYC literally became a field of clovers but as we can all attest to that, it's obviously a false theory. Even with the bridge being named Grayshot Arc, I could still believe the other guy's theory!

There is a plethora of interviews with Goddard, Reeves, and Abrams about this.
Anyway the original title was supposed to be "Monstrous" until the poster was leaked right before Comic-Con last July. Abrams was supposed to make this announcement but it was leaked first so he casually joked
"Do you think we'd call it Monstrous? No" I thought he was being sarcastic about the whole thing.
Anyway, there are no clues in the title Cloverfield. Its just the Case desgnated name.

here is the bridge rob and beth hid under:
http://www.centralpark2000.com/database/greyshot_arch.html

If you watch Nooneimportant's set videos he is filming from the other side of those pics.

Speaking of the Arch they hid under. Isn't the new Cloverfield Game called Greyshot? coincidence?

Hes exactly right. In the Goddard podcast , he is asked the question about the meaning and he says that he could tell you what it meant but it was obvious and spelled right out in the movie. Sooo obviously there is a real and hidden meaning in there. Not just a street name

I think he's just referring to "Incident designate: Cloverfield"

Sadly, spelled out in the movie, and why its called that.. but still no helpful info on why it's designated that beyond the military's gift for non-sequitors.
