I knew there was something I forgot to do... actually, is there any steganalysis software for Mac OS X? As I don't know, I'm not able to check that stuff.

There is a Mac OS X port of stegdetect here. Install instructions are at the bottom. It looks like you have to install Darwin Ports first, and then you can download the steg tool. Let me know if that works.

If I could install Darwin Ports, I'd be okay. As it is I'm on OS X 10.5.2, and I can't find any configuration information whatsoever for X11, nor can I install Darwin Ports.

I guess I'll have to use Parallels Desktop and run something through XP, or find a good Linux distro that works on Parallels, as my favorite Linux flavor (Vector 5.9) doesn't work.

Bah. I was hoping for something simple and Mac-native with a pretty GUI.

Comes up negative on the Windows stegdetect, at least.

Good find on using that link... Guess none of us tried the obvious.

Question: have we tried the example they gave us? The one that starts with a "2"...? I can't try it this second.

Tried the other cipher, no dice.

And WB, Nighthawk.

Wow nice find Big_Larry. That pciture is freaky Shocked but yeh, has anyone tried using the weird camoflauge programs to try and find anything withing the photo? Maybe using the code as the password for the image?? I don't know how to use the program so... But anyway, I will keep looking for clues, and I am glad that they haven't stopped the ARG.

Things always happen when I don't turn my computer on for a day Razz

I don't think Steph would be of much help...I'll still email her if you want, but I am thinking an email to Robert about now would be a better idea. Do we have an email for Sophia?

(my twisted humor says:) We email them and say that we are on SpringBreak and don't have time to worry about this at the moment. Razz

Yep, that was the steg check. If you want to join in on steg checks in the future with this ARG or another, the program is Stegdetect. The application will only tell you the likelyhood that an image has hidden data. If an image scores high, and you think you have a password, then Camouflage should be used.

I'll send Robert a message. Sofia's email is: sofia.riveraSPLATriveracapital.com

I about lost a lung there. Laughing That would be awesome! Smile

Edit: I spammed Robert, Stephanie, and Sofia with the warning message. I got to thinking that the killer could be Robert for lingering reasons, so I didn't want to send our findings solely to him. We already suspect Sofia, because she's supposedly crazy and never got along well with Alex. Stephanie probably didn't kill her husband.... Unless Alex was having an affair with Sofia.... Shocked

So, looking at the picture on the threat page made me think about this:

In chapter 6, verses 1-8 of The Revelation, St. John the Divine wrote:
Then I saw the Lamb open one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures call out, as with a voice of thunder, "Come!" I looked, and there was a white horse! Its rider had a bow; a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering and to conquer.

When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature call out, "Come!" And out came another horse, bright red; its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that people would slaughter one another; and he was given a great sword.

When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature call out, "Come!" I looked, and there was a black horse! Its rider held a pair of scales in his hand, and I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's pay, and three quarts of barley for a day's pay, but do not damage the olive oil and the wine!"

When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature call out, "Come!" I looked and there was a pale green horse! Its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed with him; they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, famine, and pestilence, and by the wild animals of the earth.

I don't know quite what to make of this. Revelation sounds like the end of the world, but it's about the fall of the Roman Empire. Take this for what it's worth, namely background information.

No new emails, no updates to any of the sites. The four horses message is probably the end of the first puzzle/segment. Unless anyone hears anything, it's back to playing the waiting game. Sad

Heres an origional copy of the image -- It doesn't look like the exact one that was used.

I'll try to find the exact image, and see if I can find any message hidden in the difference between the images.

We have an update.

From the redloyola homepage:

Quote:
April 5th, 2008

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Red Loyola will be closing its doors permanently. We wish to thank all of your customers and clients over the years for their support. Current customers will still be able to contact us through the "Support" link of their PANAL control panel.

Robert Morgan
CEO

As well, from the Loyola Scholarship page:

Quote:
The death of Alex has put a burden on the finances of the Loyola Scholarship Foundation. The inability of our members to attain sufficient financial resources has caused us to have to shut down the foundation. Current winners of the scholarship will continue to receive their funding for the rest of the academic year, at which time their scholarships will have to end. We apologize to our winners, but the situation is out of our hands at this time.

I want to thank everyone for their kindness after the death of Alex. The out pouring of emotions and support would please him, as he strove his whole life to spread kindness and joy to everyone around him.

Stephanie Loyola

Don't know where they're going from here, but I guess we'll see.

[SPEC]Could the loyola to which the mysterious page referred have been the company and/or the scholarship, rather than a person?[/SPEC]

Got an email from Robert in response to the Four Riders message:
Robert Morgan wrote:
I am sorry for the delay in responding to your email. I have been tied up with matters at work for the past couple of weeks. As you may or may not have learned by now, Red Loyola has been forced to close its doors. I am unable, at this time, to discuss the reasons behind this, except to say it relates to financial matters.

The content posted on our site was placed there by some rogue agent. We take this matter very seriously and consider it a threat towards someone associated with the Loyola family name. Investigations into the attack on our servers have been slowed, however, because of the recent business complications. I will be sure to update you as soon as I gain any information that may relate to this matter.

Red Loyola sounded like it was doing quite well financially, what with PANAL and Monetizer bringing in so much dough. Hrm...

You may be right, Larry. My first impression after reading Robert's email was that the entire company had been hit somehow. Maybe there was a law suit? Alex's funeral couldn't have been that expensive. Wink

Maybe... first Alex dies (as in Death, one of the riders), and then they get hit with monetary problems (maybe... hunger?), so they will be hit with plague and war in the future somehow?
[/SPEC]

I don't know, just throwing some more specs in there
