I could be wrong / confused but it seems to me that bees = Flood and apiary = Halo. I think that because bees create hunny for a particular purpose, and I have heard of no purpose served by the Flood to the Forerunners.

"The Flood are Honey for The Forerunner"
The Forerunner contain the Flood on Halo.

"Cows are Food for Humans"
We contain cattle in Texas.

Logic is still logic, containment does not preclude the contained's usefulness to those responsible for the containment.

However, Texans eat Cattle, Forerunner do not eat Flood.

This may be a heapin' helpin of Trout , but here goes:

The Flood seems to be more akin to a BL-4 pathogen, such as Ebola or Marburg, than a useful food critter such as honeybees or beef cattle.

Taking this a little further:

The Flood is a deadly disease.

The Halo is the Forerunner equivalent of a CDC BL-4 research lab.

Therefore, the Halo's sentient-destroying energy field is akin to the CDC's phenolic disinfectant sprays - in case of emergency, press here and down comes the rain.

Enough phenolic disinfectant, and whatever's crawled out of the test tube stops crawling.

:sigh:

Seeing as virtually no part of this thread has anything to do with the game, and people are being pricks only for the fact that they don't like having their flawed logic pointed out to them...

We don't know anything about the Flood or the Forerunner, and we definitely don't know anything about their relationship. The argument started as somebody suggesting that maybe the game's story is trying to tell us that the Flood are like Honey to the Forerunner (which I do not agree with), the only rebuttal to this idea was that the Forerunner contained the Flood (which, as I pointed out, does not mean the relationship isn't beneficial to either species) and I'd like to point out here and now exactly WHY the contained Flood could be of use to the Forerunner JUST TO SHOW YOU THAT YOUR LOGIC IS FLAWED.

- Weapon depots contain weapons so that civilians aren't hurt and more importantly, the military can use them. The Forerunner stockpiled the Flood in Halo because the Flood are a weapon.
- The Flood have terraforming capabilities, in that they obliterate ecosystems and change atmospheres. The Forerunner use the Flood in this purpose, but keep them locked up in Halo so they don't accidentally change too much.
- The Flood were endangered and exotic species. They were locked up to aid in the recovery of their numbers like a reserve.
- The Forerunner very well could eat Flood. We don't have proof that they didn't. Or, since honey is bee vomit and we eat that quite well, the Forerunner could eat Flood byproducts, and thus place them in captivity to cultivate this food source.

From the evidence (which is EXTREMELY small) these possibilities are not far fetched. Reading the books and/or playing the game will reveal all of this evidence to you. Three of the four situations see that the Flood is of great usefulness to the Forerunner (as a weapon, as a tool, and as food). Three out of four situations are beneficial to the Flood: as a weapon, terraforming tool or existing on a reserve, the Flood get to do what they want - eat stuff and spread. Furthermore, two of the four bring benefit to both Flood and Forerunner: as a weapon or terraforming tool, the Flood get to spread and the Forerunner get to conquer worlds.

Therefore, containment does not preclude a mutually beneficial relationship, making the counter-argument that the Flood were contained by the Forerunner invalid to the initial argument that the Forerunner might eat the Flood. In fact, given the argument that the Forerunner eat the Flood, it is MORE LIKELY that they would contain the Flood to cultivate that resource.

Thank you all very much, I hope you have wonderful days.

Very nice, very very nice. I honestly thought that noone could possible have any slight agreance with me.
343GS says this:
The installation was specifically built to study and contain the Flood - their survival as a race was dependant on it. I am grateful to see that some of them have survived to reproduce.

I believe that their survival as a race(forerunner) was based on that food source or ability to create a food or life source.
and, on another note. I believe that MC was the forerunner(looked like, not actually) that 343GS thought had survived to reproduce. here goes the argument lol

First of all Halo was made to study and contain the Flood. But ib case the Flood got off Halo, it was also a weapon that destroyed all life within a 25,000 light-year diameter area, so the Flood would starve to death. In case no one knows the speed of light it's 186,000 mps (miles per second), so the blast range of Halo was 21,642,400,000,000,000 miles. Now that seems to be a little bit extreme for an escaped food source. And second, it wasn't the MC's armor that 343GS reconized, it was that he was human. In case no remembers 343GS tried to use another human (I can't remember his name) before he found the MC.

CorSorei: Aye, he did, and he made it to the top level of the Library before dying to the hoards of flood. Even the MC was impressed.

Wonder what was meant be Reclaimer though?
