I believe I know the code

Hi! I retrieved the artifact around 2:30 this afternoon. It took me forever to get home via public transportation. I am in the process of getting my photos up, but in the meantime, here is a link to the pdf

Here's the translation of Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Pan-Cosmology

Pan-cosmology, a lost science in this world, is the study of parallel universes. Pan-cosmologists study other worlds with omphaloi just as the astronomer studies the stars and planets with telescopes.

The Pan-Cosmology Classification System* (PCCS) organizes the many thousand groups of universes into six main groups, based on the similarities and differences in the arrangement of the continents on the surface of each Earth.

Extended study of other worlds with the omphaloi revealed that all of the Earths in our present day reality seem to exist in one of six forms, shown below:

* I'm just guessing this what PCCS stands for, given the translation from esperanto. The acronym is of the English translation, implying there was an actual system, but I can't find anything from google on systems for classifying universes with that acronym, though I didn't really expect to!

Compiling research (for the second time, thanks a lot back button) on the worlds listed in the Codex, acc. wikipedia. joeyhess gave you the links, I'll give you the summary. Very Happy

NUNA
Is now called Columbia, but I suspect it was called Nuna at the time the Codex was supposed to be written. Existed approximately 1.8-1.5 billion years ago (bya). Consisted of Laurentia (North America+Greenland), Baltica (Scandanavia+Baltic), Ukraine, Amazonia (top of South America), Australia, and possibly Siberia, North China and the Kalahari as well.

Map of Nuna in Codex: no results in wiki or googleimages that are touted Nuna, but there's a match for Columbia here.

GAEA
Earth. We really need info on this?

Map of Gaea in Codex: obvious match. New Zealand's in the wrong spot though - I think - right, mr.judkins?

PANGAEA
Existed about 250 million years ago (mya). Consisted of all of the continents squashed together in a C-shape.

Map of Pangaea in Codex: match to wiki map.

GONDWANA
Existed about 200-500 mya. Consisted of Antarctica, South America, Africa, Madagascar, Australia-New Guinea, and New Zealand, as well as Arabia and the Indian subcontinent.

Map of Gondwana in Codex: here's where it gets interesting. I think they've mixed their maps around. The map on wiki for the final formation of the assembly of Gondwana, 550mya, matches the Codex map of Kenorland, not Gondwana. See? But Gondwana does match this image of Gondwana.

PANGAEA ULTIMA
Possible future supercontinent configuration which may occur within the next 250 million years. Consists of, like Pangaea, all of the continents squashed together (except for, acc. wiki, Australia and Antarctica, which are at the south pole - but not far away from the rest of the supercontinent).

Map of Pangaea Ultima in the Codex: Doesn't exactly match any other I've found, but this one's close.

KENORLAND
Existed about 2.7 bya. Yes, bya. Not mya. Bya. Consisted of Laurentia, Baltica, Western Australia and the Kalahari. Oh, and does someone wanna check out www.kenorland.org ? I've not got the patience to find a hidden link or image, nor the skillz. Might be nothing, might be something. Have fun. 'Twas nothing. Thanks, chaobell. Very Happy

Map of Kenorland in the Codex: matches wiki-image of Gondwana here.

So. How's that?

I am hungry and want to eat dinner, so my story of the retrieval is still forthcoming. In the meantime, here are some linky-dinks:

FWIW, so far the earlist mention of Nuna I've found was a book published in 1994..

No railway-related envelope, but it was near a boat - yet another means of transport.
