"Brain Clouds" pre-launch: Input would be nice

I am happy to sort of announce my new non-ARG project, Brain Clouds.

http://www.brainclouds.net/

During my development of Looking Glass Labs, I looked in to using some third party blog services and features like MySpace, Facebook, etc... Each one had a certain set of problems. For example, MySpace would re-render images so I had to use Facebook, but I wasn't really pleased with the Facebook interface. Things like that.

So I decided to take the engine I created for LGL and make a service out of it, but also include certain features that would make ARGs easier to manage and execute.

I got the core blogging system, but my management pages are weak, but I'm working on those. This should all be ready for first Beta within a few weeks.

So, the reason for this post:

1) I ask puppetmasters and non-PMs alike to look at the feature list and see if there's anything I might have missed that will facilitate PM-ing as well as player involvement.

2) When things are ready, I'm gonna need Beta testers.

Wow. That's awesome! It's like you read our minds (AB and I discussed this, see http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20584). Except it's different. Razz

I can help you test and make site themes for you and even help with the programming (except you're a lot better than me). Also, is there any password-protected page functionality?

Anyways, I can has beta plz? Laughing

EDIT: Sorry if that post was confusing. Kind of a brain dump.
EDIT X2: Random - reminds me of an ARG-focused Drupal (http://drupal.org/)
A lot of the stuff is already there.

You're my new hero again.

Anyway, I dunno how hard this would be, but it'd be kinda cool if there was an automatic text encryptor, forum style. Like, for example, if I wanted to encode the word "zomgwtfbbq" in Vigenere with the key "Uguu," I could type:

[vigenere=uguu]zomgwtfbbq[/vigenere]

Just a thought.

I also think a blogspot-style profile system would be cool, so you could have a sort of mini-bio (complete w/ photo, if desired) for each character to accompany their blog. I noticed you had some of that in your LGL blogs, but... what I'm thinking of is a bit more win.

Other than that, I must once again reiterate that you're my new hero again.

EDIT: A deviantart-style comment system where you can comment on a specific comment, and the author of said comment will be alerted of your reply would be cool, too.

Hey, Slashdot has threaded comments. Razz

They're like arch enemies with Digg, except not really.

Wow! Sounds good.

May I suggest timed comments for videos and mp3s? I mean you can specify what point in the video you're commenting on and a little comment marker comes up on the video bar. Try http://www.viddler.com/explore/Rjcoona/videos/1/ for an example of what I mean. NB - I did not make that video. It's too random even for me.

Password protection on posts and pages is a must -- extra credit if you can cut out the passwords and let the blogger specify which users are allowed to view which content.

Anyway, I'd love to test for you.

I'd work up a test if you wanted one. I have a few ARG concepts in development right now, so I could pull one of those out.

As far as features go, a registrar for all the sites under one "ARG profile" would be nice.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, great idea!

As per the suggestion of a few people, I'm doing this differently than the "one-to-one" account-to-signon setup some sites have.

Here's the hierarchy:

ACCOUNT: This is, essentially, the blog itself. It has a user account that is the "owner".

CAMPAIGN: This groups several accounts. In essence, this would be an ARG. This too has an "owner".

USERS: There are general user accounts to the system.

Now, the "owner" of an account or group can assign any variety of access rights to any other user. Therefore, you can have multiple users with active access to a single blog or group of blogs. Furthermore, you can restrict that access; for example, you can allow certain users to edit posts but not the gallery, or only allow certain users to make posts "visible" (by default, as a safety precaution, every post is "invisible" and not immediately posted until you authorize it).

So one person, the PM, would have access to all blogs under that account, and can manage them all through one unified control panel interface. Furthermore, he can delegate access rights to his team; for example, he can assign different team members to different blogs.

I gotta finish this soon, it seems; I've got a 15 page thread that's making me hungry...
