I knew someone was going to ask that question.

If you'll look again, you'll see that the circles are just too round to be a butt (no one's butt is that circular). I think they're just coffee-mug stains or random circles or something.

Okay, what's this "external world" business from chp 13? It says an external world is created when the universe becomes too dissimilar? And too many of these external worlds is what creates the danger of Rapid Continental change.
Are we on an external world?

The graph changed again this morning

Ok, the graph changed again when I woke up this morning. Note: the right boundary of the graph corresponds with the 2008 hashmark at the bottom. Does that mean the right boundary is the start of 2008 or the middle of 2008?

Anyway, yesterday, the lines went to the right boundary and this crisscrossed back and then down. See this photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25353601@N02/2388895595/

However, this morning, the lines backtrack on TOP of themselves before collapsing. See this photo:

Clearly, something has changed. Why would they ALL change like that rather than just 1 changing if something happened in 1 particular world? The only thing that appears to have changed is that the Copenhagen Artifact has now been found and interpreted.

After reading the wiki translation (which still seems to have several errors) and Chid12 translation and after correcting the German translation I now have the following understanding of this chapter:

Reality tries to keep worlds synchronized by structuring them into 6 continental forms. This categorization is done by Rapid Continental Change (RCC). Nature is doing this especially if the number of worlds is approaching the upper limit.
In this case worlds with the lowest similarity (external worlds) with all other worlds will be changed. Instead changing differences occured by human effects, it is easier to change geological effects.

Small Example:
geografical factors: g1, g2, ...
assuming for example:
(g1,g2,g3) = Pangeä
(g1,g3,g4) = Neo-Pangeä
(g5,g6,g7) = Gäa

human factors: h1, h2, ...

Worlds:
W1(g1,g2,g3, h1, h2, h3)
W2(g1,g2,g3, h1, h2, h4)
W3(g1,g2,g3, h7, h8, h9)
W4(g1,g3,g4, h1, h2, h5)
W5(g5, g6, g7, h1, h2, h3)
W6(g5, g6, g7, h1, h2, h9)

In this case I would call W6 an external world, because it has the greatest "distance" to all other worlds. If reality needs to synchronize, it would choose W6 and make a RCC to W6'(g1,g3,g4,h1,h2,h9) changing from Gäa to Neo-Pangäa

There are a lot of worlds with Pangäa structure, so that a world with this structure is similar to much many others. So even a total unsimilar human history (like W3) does not make it an external world.
Gäa worlds are already very different and there are also only a few of them, so a small deviation in human factors make them external (W6).

Even though Neo-Pangeä are small in numbers they are similar to Pangäa, so they will not become external.

For some reason reality does not use RCC to make form Gäa a Pangäa strcuture but the very similar Neo-Pangäa structure.

So the risk of a Pangäa world to be RRC'd is zero (leading to a constant number of these worlds). All other world types will be reduced and Neo-Pangäa will be raising.

Finally, this is the way reality handles the too many world problem naturally. There is also the possibility to synchronize worlds "manually" by running the labyrinths and avoiding the RCC.

Although somebody might have written it, Neopangaea in Ch.13 seems to be Pangaea-Ultima in Ch. 12.

Don't look at me, lol - I'm half a world away. I just helped Muumin get familiar with the forum and stuff. I don't think there were any photos, though - I asked, and there was no reply about it, so *shrug*. Sorry! :S
