I asked the manager of the theater that we saw the sneak peek at if we could have it and he said sure.
Most of the theater standees either end up in a dumpster or someoned that works at the theaters' living room.
It never hurts to ask, especially when the certain something you are asking about happens to be promotional material.
cheers

Man, I wanted one of those. I was going to put it in my theater room that is in my non existent home. I asked some girl at the theater about getting it and she said they send them back when they no longer show the film.

I'm kind of wonder how exactly they plan to make this into a franchise without more merch support. The stuff that is out there is not that easy to find or it's very expensive (the figure). It seems to me, that if Abhrams got the idea from seeing tons of Godzilla toys in japan that he would want to have a few cloverfield toys on the market immediately following the film.

I totally agree with you.
Watch, they'll release the super expensive toy and then two months later (right before christmas) they will put out a whole bunch of "cheaper" toys by McFarlane or Mattel.
They can't afford to miss out on such a successful market.
Side Note:
That totally bites about the girl at the theater saying that they send the standess back to the studios. They don't. why would the studios want to pay for shipping on a few pieces of cardboard that they only paid a few bucks for in the first place. she was trying to pull one over on you. They either throw them in the garbage or give them out to employees of the theater or whoever asks for them.
Of course not all theater manager are into giving them away to random people so that might be the case at your theater. Maybe the manager tells all the employees that they send them back to the studios so they don't all fight over who gets to take home the new Rambo standee and who gets the Spiderwick one.
Just a thought.

I don't think that they would get hasbro to make a figure for the movie and then suddenly switch to Mattel or McFarlane. That just reeks of poor buisness strategy.

I just got my Slusho! hat and t-shirt the other day (black, of course), and I love them. Sure, they're kind of cheap-y feeling, but I don't care. I get to wear a Slusho! shirt and be noticed by other ARG nerds! Hooray!

That wasn't a jab at how they are goind business. Just a guess.
I really doubt that they would just sell a $100 figure and not try and cash in on the under $20 market of figures. Especially these days with all the different editions and series.
Don't worry these aren't fighting words. (like some people on the boardds that just seem to want to argue about stupid things.)
Just thoughts.

I work at a theater here in my hometown, and nothinglost is right. The theatres are not normally responsible for sending back theatrical standees and other promotional items (ie t-shirts, postcards, mini posters, ect). But we do have to send posters and big things to other theaters (like the dollar theaters in our chains who get the movies after us) and some to corporate. We got a kick ass spiderman 3 poster that was a double sided holographic poster, but nobody could take it home because only so many were made and corporate wanted it back...
but it never hurts to ask...I've got two posters, a teaser and our theatrical release poster, and a press release package with a first draft of the script that one of our projectionists got from a critic friend of his. I also had the standee, but gave it to a coworker because I had nowhere to put it. Other than that, I still REALLY want a slusho! t shirt...and the DVD, of course

Seriously, the theaters don't have them anymore and I don't want to buy it online, so I'm out of luck aren't I?

I bet the theaters still have them...we just recently gave away two to some diehard ARG followers. I'd suggest checking the dollar theaters soon, as Cloverfield will be showing there in the near future. The posters won't be in great shape, mind you, but its better than nothing/.

Lol, there are no dollar theaters here. The lowest theater pricing is 3 bucks.
Anyways, I could try the cheaper theaters. They're showing Cloverfield now.
