[SPEC] Dharma Initiative and Cloverfield So "Lost" has popped up quite a few times in "Cloverfield". The first was during the opening 'credits' where the Dharma logo flashed for a split second, then in the military holding facility (watching the DVD now, you can see the Dharma logo on one of the folders being passed from a doctor), and now in the new contest.
Likewise, in the new mini-ARG for "Lost", you can see a still frame from the film in Sam's sleeve.
How do you think "Cloverfield" would tie into the "Lost" world if they are at all related to one another? Why do you think the Dharma logo is popping up so much? Just cross promotion of some sort?
Speculate...

Well its probably just an easter egg, but if it were tied in together somehow, then dharma probably had something to do with MGP's...size or biology

Huh. Interesting point. Dharma has experimented with underwater species.

Sharks and whales were recurring themes in the "Cloverfield" ARG/E.
Plus didn't the "Cloverfield" Q & A reveal that the two "may be" related?
I'm a fan of both, so this really interests me.

it's something like McIntre, which is a pretty common last name. Plus, the movie showed her family and I think someone would have pointed out a common character before now if there was one.

That's it guys! It's not just a fun thing JJ threw in there for shits and giggles anymore... Seeing the Dharma logo AGAIN confirms, there IS a connection between LOST and Cloverfield!!! It's only a matter of time before we start seeing stuff in LOST to prove it more...
Obviously the Dharma logo is back to keep the connection fresh in our minds! WOOO!

I think the only thing we can be pretty sure about is that we can't be sure about anything... Especially with all the disagreeing reports from producers, directors, and writers...

Probably. But it is interesting to note that Dharma has experimented on sharks and underwater lifeforms.
I always thought Clover and the smoke monster sounded similar, but that's probably just a coincidence.
Drew Goddard said they 'may be' related so who knows. "Lost" and "Cloverfield" share a lot of similarities; the 108 thing, the fascination with the number 6, Japanese culture, etc.
Plus both revolve around a group of people lost on an island and trying to get off. (Manhattan being the island)

Thanks to Cloverfield is why I started watching Lost. I wanted to see if there was any connection. If there is, then Dharma probably found the creature and experimented with it.

I think CloverfieldFiles.com, if it is in fact a part of the ARG and not a promotional site for the DVD, will be where we get a nod in that direction, if there even is one. If so, it'll probably be exclusive to the ARG and not mentioned in any potential sequels, the same way Tagruato and TIDOWave were never even mentioned in the film, aside from the logo on the tanker.
From what I've seen in interviews with Drew and Matt, it seems like they're more behind the idea of the online stuff unraveling a parallel storyline, and not one that will be necessarily crucial to any further sequels. They've also both subtly dismissed the whole Tagruato and Tidowave concepts, so maybe Dharma will take its place as the organization responsible for the monster's emergence.
If Dharma experimented on Clover like they've been known to experiment on sharks, I wonder how it will affect The Oceanic 6.
Then again, "LOST" was mentioned by name on the characters' MySpace profiles. But of all the viral marketing that was done, it seems like the MySpace profiles are the most irrelevant. For instance, Marlena interacted with Rob on MySpace like they were friends, yet in the film she explained that she barely knew him.
So if we can disregard that fact, there might actually be a connection. I wish I had a program that took screen shots of DVDs because I'd love to post the Dharma logo on that folder I mentioned in my OP.
Because you know, Reeves and Goddard have both explained that the only thing that matters to the film is what's there on screen, and they've inserted the Dharma logo more than one time. I'd buy into the 'cross promotion' thing a little more if casual fans recognized the symbol, but I think only diehards would pick up on what it means.

"LOST" is a great show. It's hard not to watch that cast in action and not fall completely in love with the series. Now that "The Sopranos" are gone, I'd venture to say that "LOST" has the strongest cast on television right now. I think a lot of people who are into "Cloverfield" would dig the show. As far as 'going deeper' is concerned, everything about "LOST" inspires you to get deep and investigate things. The Lost Experience (the show's ARG/E) reminded me a lot of the Cloverfield ARG/E, only it was much more active...
