All right. We have run into a minor snag. The earliest day that works for everyone is April 20. We were going to do this in Golden Gate Park. April 20th is Earth Day, and there's going to be a huge concert in GGPark. So we're scouting this weekend for a new location. We may end up in the Presidio.

Here's a link to Priceline for the downtown area

The ones on Lombard would probably be best, but I really don't know anything about them.

Really, though, anywhere in town is probably fine. I'll be coming from Oakland that day, so you'll have a leg up on me no matter what.

All of that is correct, except that Earth Day is the 22nd. Razz

Though the concert is billed as an Earth Day celebration, so I will give you that. BUT ONLY THAT.

Yeah, I decided to check out events in GGPark AFTER I set this deal up (yeah--I'm SMRT). The place I had scouted out, which would have been lovely, is right next to Speedway Meadow, where the huge FREE concert is taking place. So it will be a nightmare of crowds, noise, and NO place to park.

So, yeah, I am thinking the parade grounds in the Presidio. What I think would be an ideal location I fear would be purt near impossible (under the dome of the Palace of Fine Arts).

We shall keep you posted.

Is anyone based in San Francisco doing any outreach on SFzero to recruit more people for this event?

Probably not right to make it a mission, but the SFzero playerbase seems like the kind of people who would be into this sort of afternoon's activity. Maybe this training can get a mention in their weekly email.

I played SFØ during glasnost, but have done nothing during the current phase. That is a good suggestion, but I don't think it will be necessary to post in there anyway, since people are bringing friends and it looks like it will probably be a fairly good-sized crowd.

Would you please register here? Or is it still not working for you?

Hotel recommendations: what Ariock said. Smile

Would you please register here? It's where we're keeping track of everyone who is planning on attending.

Well, at this point, we just had Kai pipe up about possibly relocating the event to Mission Dolores park. Which would mean the hotels near Market might be better. Those might be better as far as being centrally located anyway.

Please note that the venue has changed for this event.

Change noted. Is it certainly going to be at SHP?

I've changed my Facebook event to accomodate for that. Hopefully a bunch of my friends come. I'm prodding where appropriate. I AM SO JUICED FOR THIS (and it's more than 2 weeks away lol)

Yes, it will be there for sure. It is such a perfect spot for it. GGPark will be terrible on the 20th because of the free concert that will take place right next to where I had planned the labyrinth to be (yeah, I checked to see what else was going on in the Park AFTER I set it up--der). SHP is a much better location anyway (see my comment in the Yahoo Events Page extolling its virtues).

It's great that you are inviting friends. I am too. This may be a very large crowd, which will be great. Very Happy

With the change of venue, I thought I would suggest a couple of places.

At Point Lobos Ave. and 48th Ave. (RIGHT next to the event) is The Seal Rock Inn, which is kind of famous if you ever read much Hunter S. Thompson, but I do notice the rooms are all non-smoking.

About 3.5 miles south at Sloat Blvd. & 44th Ave. is a Days Inn. They do offer smoking rooms.

There are other motels in the area too.

Ohh, Jane McGonigal posted on her blog about the April 20th training session.

She mentions that the more the merrier, so since we have a while from now until the 20th, let's try to get as many people to the event as possible! Use those social networks, people! Let's try to break 100, ho ho.

Sounds like she'll be there too--Wonder if, with so many people, it might make sense to do a full labyrinth, rather than just the training version? Or several separate labyrinths run simultaneously?

(wishing I had never moved from the west coast... Sad )

Re: Jane McGonagal

I wonder whether the presence of a PM will mean that the event is firmly OOG, and that none of the characters can be there?

This being the first ARG I've played where a PM has publicly stated they are running it while the game is still being played, I think just about anything could happen.

I agree.. She also has her strength listed as a blog widget.. I think she's enjoying both the part of a PM and a player on this one. Possibly because of its scale and global reach, especially related to some of the underlying themes such as unity.

When she is there, I'd assume she'd want to be treated just like any other participant and discussion about IG stuff only...

Jane shows up as attending in the yahoo event, as does Kai.

I think she was just kidding at SXSW about working on the game. Obviously that was a gamejack.
