OK, done. If anyone wants to translate stuff into Esperanto, Japanese, or German, contact me via unforums PM

I don't see where I can choose a language; everything is in English.

I think you change it in your preferences after you sign up.

While I think a ning is a good idea, it's still tough because everyone is still limited to their own language. So even if I were to post a greeing like, Hey guys! How's it going? if someone didn't understand English, there's no real benefit. Even if every player globally joins up there'll still be separate language-based forums. I'm looking into social networking engines that will let us edit the method of interaction to take the emphasis off communicating using language/words.

Would be cool to find a way of embedding Babblefish (or some other translator), to translate every post into the user's selected language. There has to be a way, although maybe not with Babblefish, since it's proprietary.

Yeah. That's one limitation Ning has and Drupal doesn't. Maybe Ning wasn't such a smart idea...

How about a simple drop-down added to the template that translates via Google?
EDIT: Changing to text file as the form code won't post, correctly.
Or... A translation widget .

I'm kinda starting to like my test installation of Drupal and it's i18n features: http://scribblecube.net/ftlr/
Notice the neato translation links (already there). Then, go to the post's page and notice that you can click on translate and translate the post.
I like that system.

As a programmer I do not think it is possible to create a whole social networking site from scratch before August.
Being a web developer/designer myself i agree with this statement... it will take many weeks of someones time to design a site from scratch.
I'm also not exactly sure what everyone is looking for that isnt already located on the various forums, wiki and spreadsheets people have set up.
The only thing i think is missing is something kinda like this -

A real time chat tool that translates on the fly... unfortunately the pricing for something like that is....?

Free.
On google talk, start a group chat, and invite [L1]2[L2]@bot.talk.google.com where [L1] = Language translating from [L2] = Language translating to
So, if you want to translate the whole chat session from english to chinese, invite en2zh. The bot will also translate the other way (chinese to english).

Kind of functional, ugly. Try it out, or just stick with the Ning.

A team of Esperanto-speaking Drupal developers is working on this now; check out the Drupalo forums if you want to join in the developing. If you speak Esperanto and know Drupal or want to learn Drupal, also be aware that there will again be a few scholarships for attending DrupalCon.
Right now the major obstacle I can see is that the standard Drupal site doesn't look nearly as cool as Ning. Is anybody up to designing or implementing a Drupal skin for "Find the lost ring"?

Dearest Drupal wizards,
Would you guys be willing to help me develop a module that encompasses the Symbol Chat and Word Select features? Then all may share in our omni-lingual glory!
